I need some assistance and I'm hoping someone here will know the
answer.  I need to pay a friend back for a cell phone he purchased for
me a couple years ago.  I don't have the original receipt and  I doubt
he has it either.  He now says I owe him $349.99 for the Nextel i830
Bronze cell phone.

I can't believe it really cost this much for this phone.  He's a big
Nextel customer and gets at least 20% on his account and big discounts
on equipment.

I'll pay whatever the price really was, but first I want to find out
from independent sources what the retail price (or likely price) was
of this phone at the time (early 2005).  I suspect he is trying to
price gouge me but before I approach him to talk I'd like to know the
price.  I was thinking the phone was probably no more than about $250.

Can anyone assist here?

I bought one from Nextel a couple fo months after it came out.  I think I
paid about $179.

Okay but was that for an included 2-year contract?  I had a 1-yr
contract and no phone since I was using this new i830 this guy had.
What would you think would be a reasonably accurate cost for this
model when it came out?

I believe he must have just googled the phone, saw that it's price
ranged from $149 to $349 when it came out, the price depending on the
deal and terms of contract negotiated with the carrier, and just gave
me the highest price because ... well.... because he's that way.  I've
requested a copy of the original receipt but I sincerely doubt that he
has it at this point.  I guess I'll have no choice but to pay his
outrageous price if there's no documentation showing otherwise, though
I would think Nextel/Sprint would have some record of this, even going
back 3 years...right?  BTW, this sitch is complicated because I'm
friends with his wife and I don't want to lose her friendship over
this.  But neither do I want to get price gouged.  I just want to pay
the actual cost that he paid for the phone.

it was 349.99 retail and 249.99 with 2 year contract for existing customers
and 199.99 for new customers and i think if you were corporate it was like
174.99 if you were a new or existing customer.

if he's getting 20% off then he definately got it at a corporate price.

i think i bought one for around 250 when it 1st came out

you should just give him the phone back and tell him to take a hike

they are definately taking advantage of you!!!!

you can find them on ebay for $80 and he's expecting 350 what a jerk
