I'm not happy with Nextel and the i830 availability

So, I can't get Nextel to sell me an i830 unless I activate a new
account.  Worse yet, they say they won't be available until July 31st
to current customers.  Was anybody able to get one that's a current
Nextel customer????  I've been waiting so long for this phone only to
get "Sorry, you need to activate a new account".

This is ridiculous!

and car charger.  Box, sim, belt clip, and wall charger included.

I was at NEXTEL last night and would of been able to buy one without a
new activation if I wanted copper as all the silver ones were gone as
of 12:00 that day and dish out $300.00.  There were tons of guys on
Howardfourums.com and also purchased without new activations.

Time for you to find another dealer in your area.

> This is ridiculous!

I lost one of my phones and didn't have The Signal insurance so the
store I went to told me that they didn't sell phones without activation
and that I would have to cancel my old number and activate a new phone.
Customer service was going to charge me the $200 cancelation fee,
until they found out the store lied to me and required a new activation.
According to the rep on the phone, the store gets $25 in commission
for each new phone activated.  Sounds like the franchise store you went
to is trying to make money off you.
Richard Ness - 02 Jun 2004 15:57 GMT
Got one yesterday.
Without activation. Had a 530, (blech!)

Only one gotcha...

Rep in store said that it wouldn't be active for 24-48 hours.
'Cause of "quality assurance".

Said that "SIMS don't transfer between phones" which is BS.

Popped the old SIM into the i830 and was up and running immediately.
Suppose that I'll have to switch to the new SIM sometime today/tomorrow

Do you mean extend your contract, and not really a new account?

And AS USUAL,  the price is way too high for a phone of that already
outdated technology...you can get a Motorola V600 for that price and get
more features and a bigger screen.

Thanks Nextel...

Amen, brother. Nextel is ripping us off on these phones because they've got
customers  by the short hairs who need their type of service.

Got my new i830 today and it is a sweet phone. small and light. Fits in the
palm of my hand. I love the bronze color I chose too! I can't load any
rinders with myjal tho. It won't recognize the software. Sent an email to
myjal support to see what the story is.

MyJAL 01.01.2C is the newest version and it does not support the i830
yet.

WebJAL 01.01.03 does support it.  I use both for now WebJAL because
MyJAL does not work for it untill they release a new version.

Download WebJAL 01.01.03

Just copy and past the link and put it back together.

I also use the IdenInsider WebJAL Patcher which I will post as an
attatchment in another reply to this message.  It is like 200kb.

This is not true. Not so in NYC area. My traxcking number says I will have
my new i830 in my hand tomorrow morning. All Ihad to do is extend me
contract for the same price as a new contract. Mention this and I am sure
you will get the same response. If not than I will be buying some i830 to
sell. lol

In Anderson, South Carolina I walked into a Nextel Retail Store and
purchased a silver i830 on 06/05/2004.  I already have an account with
Nextel all I did was extend my contract.

The sad part about this is all cell carriers are required to have all
customers equipment GPS or triangulation enabled by 2005 for E911 locate
ablility. However, we as impatient Americans can't wait and these companies
all know it.

All customers? Are you saying that non-GPS phones like the i95 won't be
allowed anymore?

they stopped making non-GPS phones like i95 but i95 and older phones will
always work.
