Hey, any Nextel gurus or better out there have any info on what is up
with the network lately?  I don't know if it's getting oversold, or
there is a retune/refreq project in the works or what, but both myself
and the 4 other people (employees/friends) I gave or recommended
Nextel to have been experiencing some serious call quality and drop
call issues.  My phone, location, etc. are not to blame here, nothing
has changed and I've had my share of several years in the cell biz,
but I seriously am noticing more coverage/call quality & busy channel
issues lately in Tampa bay and my partners in Orlando are saying the
same thing...

Anyone have more solid info on anything regarding this?

Thanks
AH

No info, just adding confirmation to your claim.  Lately service here sucks.
*Especially* DC.

I hate to hear that sort of thing because I'm planning to move to Florida in
another 6 months & switch to Nextel.  Up to this point all I'm reading are
good comments about Nextel in Fl.  Does anyone know if there's coverage all
the way across Alligator alley yet?

Ditto here on the Orlando area..... in the last 6 months I have noticed a
significant amount of dropped calls and no service on my phone.
Additionally, it is not just my phone, it is also my wife and daughters
phone so I know it is not an equipment issue on our end.

I live about 80 miles of Tampa.

In January I went to a local cellular store and had them bring a Nextel
phone to my house.  I wanted to be sure I had coverage from home.  Inside
the house the phone showed a strong signal.

Then in May my phone kept showing "No Service".  Then it would go in
service.  In and out for weeks.  I finally called Nextel.  They said Nextel
was having system problems in Florida.  After 2 more weeks, there was no
improvement.  So I called back.

They opened a ticket and got my cross streets.  They said they checked
things out and according to their maps I am only guaranteed street coverage.
They said the reason why my service is bad now is because of the spring
foliage.  I informed them that was nice but that doesn't help me.

Nextel was good about it and allowed me to cancel my contract with paying
for the terminiation fee.

I say all this to state that I noticed a significant degradation of service
in May.  It was a significant change from January to May.
