Nokia 7700 cancelled?

While doing a cellphone finder search (expandable memory, FM radio,
64k color, etc) on gsmarena.com, I came up with 5 phones:

Motorola E680
Motorola E680i
Nokia 6230
Nokia 6260
Nokia 7700

The 7700 looks like a pretty awesome model. I wonder why it never
came to fruition?
