Hi, Recently received a 6320 and realized how much I missed Nokia phones! I'm curious as to what is a better option - connecting the phone to my computer with a Nokia data cable or purchasing a Bluetooth "dongle" to transfer data to and from my phone? Can anyone elaborate on the pros/cons of each? Thanks, Neal. IMHO Bluetooth is better, cause you'll be able to use it with any other phone with Bluetooth (if you'll change yours in future). And not only phone - HPC, laptops, etc. But cable connection works faster (if your USB is 2.0). You will notice this if transfer large file or many files at once. Hi there, DONT get the Bluetooth dongle for several reasons. 1. Sometimes Nokia / Bluetooth / Microsoft do not get on well especially since XP SP2 came out. The connections are problematic, although I have had no experience of the 6320 I do have experience of the 7650, 6600, 6630 using bluetooth to connect to my machine and I say dont do it. 2. The cable is a lot cheaper option and you should get a cable with the phone if not ask your provider why not as they are standard I have always thought. 3. Bluetooth can run down the battery on your phone when using it for lots of data transfer, which normally means you have it charging whilst using it. So if you have to put a cable into the unit to use bluetooth it kind of eliminates the point of wireless connectivity. Ignore him, he top posts... that should tell you a lot... I have never had any problems with my bluetooth dongle with both the 6230 & 3230 I own however connecting my data cable manage to put the phone into a locked state forcing me to send it back to Nokia for repair. It also never seemed too keen on charging the phone via the data cable also... was all VERY hit & miss... Bluetooth dongles are great as you can use them with loads of other devices and not just the current nokia. As stated in another post nokia require you to buy a new cable each time a new phone comes out! This is not the case with bluetooth! Top posting is done by about 60% of the people here, as I said MY experiences with the 7650, 6600, and 6630 have not been good with Bluetooth. You will also find the battery use is different from phone to phone as one of the biggest problems with the 7650 and 6600 was the inability of the phone to go into sniff mode for Bluetooth which meant it was always on and as such killed the battery within a few hours, but thankfully that was fixed in the 6630. The problems with BT is normally nothing to do with the phone but more on the PC setup and service packs and even the drivers you use, also Nokia had / have a problem with Symbian phones but as the 6320 is not Symbian then it should be ok. Cables are not a problem as Nokia produce TWO, yes a massive TWO, cables the DKU-5, DKU-2 which should be provided with the phone. The 6630 uses the DKU-2 which also works with my girlfriends 6230. If you do go BT then make sure you check out the adaptor prior to purchasing with some good nokia sites to ensure there will not be any surprises when you use it. But again this is my opinion which is what this forum is about, rather than being dictated to by opinionated fools who cant accept anything but their own thoughts, I dont spend a lot of time on these boards but some people obviously need to get out more!! <snip lots of useless information> Top posting is really really crap. OE is mostly to blame as it automatically puts the cursor there for posts but even so, the user should realise how hard it can be to keep track of what is going on in a post especially when it is really long! I also have the cable, but the drivers keep locking up on MS-Windows. Yes, you do need to disable Bluetooth (from your phone) when you're not using it, or it will eat up your phone battery. For big data transfers (MP3s, lots of photos, etc.), I take the data card out of the phone and use a card reader. That is much faster than Bluetooth or the data cable. Thanks for the replies. I think I'll start with the Bluetooth option. That being stated, any recommendations? I have USB 2.0. I've always had success with Belkin products. Neal |
