And since when has a 6310 been a DCT3 handset?
The 6310 is DCT4. If you don't care about the handset and want to waste
your time & money you could buy a cheap "China" flasher for about £25 that
has no support and is so buggy that you stand a very good chance of
rendering the phone useless. To do the job properly requires decent
flashing kit such as UFS.

Well actually yes, but you need more than just a cable. Unless you have
the right equipment, which costs in excess of £200 for a quality device,
you risk wrecking the phone.
Take it to a Nokia service centre and let them take the risk, it will cost
you less.

You need an adapter, cable, and an interface, and a program with it.
You should give it up of course, and rather ask your nearest service center
and they can upgrade it for you, maybe they'll charge you 50 dollars or
something.

Around £15 in the UK. Cheaper than £200 plus for the equipment to do it
yourself.

Hi Ian,
In short, you can't update firmware by yourself, I mean you can but you
have to buy special flashing equipment and mentioned equipment is just to
expensive for personal purpose, to learn more about flashing chk out below
