When I let the DKU Drivers load at boot up when it's time to shut down the
computer it just hangs and the only way to shut it down is a hard shutdown
(holding the power button until it shuts down) and we all know this is not
good for the computer.  So I use Start-up Manager and tell it not to let the
drivers load at bootup, if I plan on syncing my phone with the computer I
plug the phone into the DKU-5 cable and boot up the computer and I can then
sync it, but then when it's time to shut down it hangs and hard shutoff is
the only way to shut down my PC.  I looked in the Device Manager and it
shows no problems with the DKU-5 usb connection.. I loaded drivers for this
cable from both the CD that came with it and right from Nokia's website..
Anyone else have this problem or know of a fix??

Have a look for a program called FreshUI from Fresh Devices. It offers
various 'tweaks' for Windows, one of which forces programs to close on
shutdown (I think it's in the Shut Down options).

The program is free, you'll just need to register it for an activation
code.

Received a e-mail from Nokia and they couldn't reinact my problem but
they're suggestion on how to stop it worked.. In case anyone else runs into
this problem and does a search here is the fix..
"Open the Connection Manager within PC Suite and uncheck the Serial cable
connection box. This will stop the port connection to the data cable and you
can now attempt to shut down the PC. If this allows the PC to shutdown then
you will want to stop the data cable prior to shutting down the PC"
