I should also add that the phone is on contract and [at work] I am within a
3G coverage area.

Hi Neil, how are you trying to connect the phone to the laptop?

Sorted now, the software from the cd didn't work properly so I
downloaded it from the nokia site, it works a treat!

Best of luck, you'll never, ever, ever get rid of all traces of it when
you finally decide it's useless and "uninstall" it.

Well, first impressions are that it is fantastic. I was connecting at just
over 450KBps so I'm VERY happy with it.

Pleased to see you resolved the problem. Like you I think the Nokia PC
Suite is pretty good and the connection is reliably fast too :-)

You haven't tried uninstalling it yet. It leaves bits of itself all over
the registry and even with Nokia's own removal tool it still keeps coming
back. Manually editing and removing the remaining traces from the registry
doesn't work either, 24 hours later it's back. It's almost as bad as AOL
software..!

I'm not bothered by this tbh, as I won't be uninstalling it.

Yet.

This is more likely to be MS problem than Nokia. Almost every
application I've ever installed and then uninstalled has left bits in
the Registry ... it's a Windows thing.

So how come that when I manually remove the remaining traces from the
registry, 24 hours later it's back again..?
It may well be a MS problem but it was the Nokia software that caused it,
I have never had this problem with any other software I've installed.

It's not the software you install that's the problem ... only the stuff
you uninstall. Whether applications show any signs of their presence
after being removed, or not, doesn't mean that the Registry isn't full
of references to them.
For anything to "return" in the way you describe then it can't have been
removed properly - and that's a Windows function - and you are either
missing a Registry entry when you manually remove the traces or there's
something set in the start-up routine.
Think about it; you uninstall the application, delete the application
folder and shortcuts, remove all traces from the Registry (assuming you
can find everything), reboot the computer (thereby flushing the system
RAM) and the app return on power up - it has to be an OS problem.

It will expect to be told which GPRS APN to use. This should be internet
for Vodafone. You may need to ask for adult content bar to be lifted by
Vodafone for all ports and protocols to work properly.
