Sadly they can't be unlocked by any third party yet.

I have had two of these on O2 contract (Direct) and both came unlocked.  If
it ws on contract you could mention this, and they may unlock it for you.

Yep, O2 will have them.

I agree, but unfortunately there is no widely available third-party
unlocking solution for BB5 handsets yet (nor in the forseeable future).  If
the handset was supplied on an O2 contract, chances are that it's already
unlocked.  Have you checked?

Are you serious? If they subsidise the phone price, they want to get their
money back and a lot of that comes from the call (etc.) costs. If you would
use it all the time on another operator, they would only get the monthly
fee.

O2 are one of the few service providers that rarely lock their monthly
contract handsets, I know from experience and from asking them.  Just try a
different SIM and see what happens.

If they only get their monthly fee for the total contract period then most,
if not all, of the price they paid for the handet has probably been
recouped.

Join the club, I suspect sooner or later mobile networks would be the
sole subsidiary to unlock certain phones
