I usually find Simon one of the more informative posters here, but it's
understandable that he sometimes "loses his rag" with some of the forum
posters. Now whilst his original response *may* have been over the top,
your particular forum has been the source for many idiots posting over the
last couple of years who when they don't like the correct answers they are
given resort to ill-considered rants. Even worse are the posters who
provided incorrect information and take the hump when their errors are
pointed out.

What's the point? The spammers won't see the posts, and all that reasonably
can be done is to report the spam. Adding smart come backs does nothing
other than add noise to the group for no good purpose.

That's a matter of opinion, and you're entitled to yours as much as he is.

Except that's a pretty poor comparison. Usenet serves the same purpose as
an online forum without consuming bandwidth. As I've already said, an
online forum also doesn't have the immediacy of usenet. It's just a
different way of doing things, not necessarily better or worse, but
certainly with advantages.

To be brutally honest, I've seen very little of that when it comes to posts
from your forum that end up here or any of the other cellular newsgroups. A
moderated forum is never going to be able to effectively police posts (and
given that usenet is basically anarchy, nor should it) to usenet, and even
if you decide to cancel posts you don't approve of, bear in mind that very
few usenet servers honour cancel requests.

Perhaps you're right, but I suspect that many usenet groups are declining
because the experienced users are fed up with the amount of noise.
Anyway, I think you have now proved that you do give a rats a.s about the
content of posts by your members, and it's nice to see one of the online
forums that feeds to usenet that has some users who care about content and
quality.

We acknowledge that in the past, some of our members got into th
usenet groups and caused some ruckus, and we wish that we had been abl
to take precautions sooner than we have. When CPF was a new site, a
with any new site, we had a period of 'adolescence' that we had t
outgrow. Some of our moderators in the past have been young an
inexperienced, and yes many of our members have been ignorant to th
concept of 'newsgroups' and some may have acted inappropriately here a
times.
However, IMHO we now have the best team of moderators we've ever ha
and the forums are very well-maintained. We don't tolerate member
flaming in the forums OR in the newsgroups, and any time this doe
occur, we take appropriate action to resolve the issue. In case you'r
wondering, TalkNokia has been permanently banned from our site. Thi
thread was the final straw, he was already barely skating around ou
spam/advertising rules and he knew it.
If you ever have a complaint about a cellphoneforums member's behavior
please feel free to use our contact form to notify us and the complain
will be taken very seriously. Our members are required to follow th
same rules here that apply on our site, and bad behavior will not b
tolerated. Thank you again for allowing me the opportunity to offer a
explanation for this big misunderstanding, and hopefully you ca
forgive my own bad behavior directed at Mr. Templar. I'm very loyal t
CPF and tend to take direct insults of our site very personally, and
can understand that Mr. Templar seems to feel the same way abou
alt.cellular.nokia. :)
