Canopus - 21 Nov 2006 13:53 GMT I bought a 1GB memory card for above phone, but, seem to be having difficulty copying some items from one card to the other. Copying my videos and images proved no problem going Old Card > PC > New Card using a card reader and swapping cards, but, from the Extras folder in the old card I find that the applications in Collections have only the .jad files copied not the .jar files of the applications or the .rms database file. Same with games, the .jar files will not copy, I get an Access Denied error. Is there any trick to copying these applications and games? I found something similar with screen savers, wallpaper and ring tones, the only way I could copy them from one card to another was to move a few from the card to phone memory, swap cards and then move them back to the memory card, but, due to lack of phone memory it's a slow and cumbersome process and applications and games use more memory creating greater difficulties. Surely this is not the only way to do it.

Canopus - 21 Nov 2006 14:03 GMT I forgot to mention, there is also a "SD Content Package sd_voda" file that cannot be copied from old card to PC and also if I right click on it or any .jar file no context menu comes up so I cannot see their properties.

I found that some of the files, such as the games, could not be copied off the 64Meg card that came with my 6233. The games were available as downloads from Nokia. The "Secure" part of SD means keeping YOU out. Incidentally, downloading from Nokia "requires" you to click through a T&C agreement unless you bypass it by manipulating the URL on the download button.

When you say they are available as downloads from Nokia am I right in presuming that they are available as downloads via ones mobile phone only? If so that is a path I don't really want to take as I don't want to enable the costly Internet side of my phone, I certainly don't need it and t6here are always security issues that come along with it.

Download them on your PC and then transfer them to your card or if you have a data cable use PCSuite/Install applications to transfer them. I got Rally 3D, Soccer 3D, Presenter and Sensor by downloading them to my PC.

Odd that you can download them to your PC and transfer them to your card, but, not transfer them from one card to the other both of which belong to you. I don't really like the Nokia PC Suite, seems a bit clunky, but, I do have two card readers one with Micro SD slot the other with SD slot and have the adapter so PC direct to card seems the easiest way.

It is odd that some git at Nokia has decided to use the SD card's Secure function to lock the apps when they are available elsewhere but these left hand/ right hand cockups aren't unknown. Nokia PCSuite IS about the clunkiest bit of software that will ever grace a PC; strange that a company that has the best UI on phones can't get to grips with how to produce a PC app. Their Music Manager blows: all the files in, say, My Music are lumped in one big listing, no search function, just endless scrolling. It can rip a CD to AAC but doesn't use CDDB, you have to manually rename the tracks if you want them to show anything other than Track1, etc. I keep hoping that some update will reveal that they finally got hit with the clue stick but it ain't happened yet.

You'd also think they would include in their PC suite an easy way to convert 3gp videos to AVI or mpeg. As it is, unless you are willing to pay for an application to do it, you have to use two freeware products, one to convert from 3gp to AVI and the other to convert from AVI to other formats. I never realised that PC Suite handled ripping and converting music in that way, then I've never thought of using it for that as I use Real Player or Foobar2000 for ripping and converting to mp3 as they both do an excellent job of it and label them well. Also just found out that Real Player can play 3gp video once it downloads the correct codex for them so between using that and my card readers it looks as if I won't be using PC Suite too much.
