Found posted here or somewhere a code to get the version number .. also a
code to do a hard reset.  WHICH I HAVE DONE ..  I am still having problems
with the phone shutting down and/or freezing up where the only answer is to
remove the battery and restart.  By the end of the week I will probably need
a new back for the phone, because I have to pop it off over and over.

Here is the info I got from the phone .. is this the most current version?

V 11.0.034
17-08-06
RM-55
n93 [70.02]

ALSO:  I tried doing the software upgrade and it tells me that I have the
most current version.  Actually, it tells me there is "no software updates"
for my model phone ..

As per the note at the bottom of the Software update page
"16-Nov: Nokia N93 updates are temporarily unavailable due to
maintenance. You can still download and install the Nokia Software
Updater application to your computer for use with other compatible Nokia
products."

Updates are still down, although there is a v20.x.x out.

What is causing your phone to lock up, I have a new N93 with the same
software version and am not experiencing regular lockups.

If I try and back up it locks up.
Tried downloading a ring tone, it locked up.
I was doing a customization of the standby mode .. locked up ...

It isn't just one thing that causes it, but FOR SURE the backing up ALWAYS
causes it.  It gets about 20% backed up, and I get an error to retry it.  I
have to take out the battery and restart, but it happens again.

At first I thought the problem was the cable, but then I did a sync, it did
NOT lock up .. Last night I was sending a VERY SHORT text message.  maybe a
half dozen words, I see the progress bar 'sending' and it never sends, but I
have to open the back for it to release.  When I rebooted the message was in
the draft folder.
But I have sent a dozen others with no problem.  Other times it locks up and
I leave it alone and eventually I hear the sound of it re-booting .. or I
think it has .. but I open it up to a black screen .. or .. sometimes when
it is thinking about rebooting, the screen goes white .. AND [this is a
lemon, right?] sometimes when the phone is rebooting and it is closed, the
display, before showing the hands, shows just a screen full of colored dots.
AAARGH.

My other phone is a Motorola mpx300, it is PERFECT and a great phone, but
sometimes it just shuts off on it's own ..  Both are large phones, I don't
like the tiny ones for some unknown reason ..  that's why I chose this
model.  Now I am thinking I have made a mistake buying the Nokia, I haven't
even tried taking a picture yet ..

Just tried a backup both to a PC and its intenal memcard, no issues. All
I can suggest is either finding a nokia service centre and getting the
firmware upgraded or changing the phone. Mine is same version and its
only locked up twice in two weeks.
