I have no clue what good it will ever do me.  But I don't know how to make
it work.  I hold the phone screen to the barcode ?? ? If yes, for how long.
Lost my manual, sorry.

I've used it a few times to see if it actually works.  When you focus on the
barcode, make sure the two red lines are between the actually code.  The
cameras autofocus should pick it up. If you try in on a small flat barcode
with lots of natural light it should work.  How long depends on how long you
can keep your hand steady.  If the standby comes on then its not picking it
up.

Only information I've managed at best is the phone number and product number
for a tv I was thinking of buying.  I have no idea why its on a mobile. must
be a reason why they have included something like this. Maybe Nokias coming
out with something in the future.

Am confused.  How does the WLAN relate to the barcoe reader for the n93?

I have a theory about the barcode scanner.
have you noticed the competitions where you have to find a code within a
packet, lets for an example use M&M's, then you have to SMS that code in to
go in the draw, I can see competitions in the future where you have to scan
in the barcode of a product as being one of the options for entry. and just
like in the current completions, you must keep your product packaging to
collect any major prizes (before someone says "What about just walking down
the isle of your local supermarket and scanning in their codes")
as I said, just a theory :-)

Good theory.  Anything's possible.  I never thought of the uses outside of
the U.K

I mean, if you can buy french fries from a vending machine anythings
possible

Its primarily intended for use with 2D QR codes, which can hold phone
numbers, URLs or messages.
In asia, they are used on adverts.
