Sprint Customer Service

I am thinking of switching to Sprint.  Right now I have Cellular One.  There
rates and coverage is good were I live but there so called customer service
just pains sucks!  I don't think waiting for 20 minutes to talk to someone
every time I call is good service and then they tell me I have to call
someone else and have to wait again.  Guess what I'm wondering is Sprint the
same.  The only choice for cell service were I live (South Dakota) is
Cellular One, Cellular 2000 (Unicell) or Sprint. I can get Verizon but not
with a local number.

Also is the free and clear plans good?  Sprint Coverage is not the greatest
here.  But right now I roam on sprint on my cell one phone so I know the
calls are clear.  Oh the reason I'm calling customer service all the time is
because when I got my phone Audiovox 8600 it has never worked right and now
they tell me its customer abuse.  They will not give me a new phone or
credit for one.  I am not pay them people for another phone.  Trying to get
out of contract with them without pay $200.  Sorry for rambling on but they
(Cellular One) just pissed me off
Thanks for any info you can give me about Sprint.

You are trading Cellular One for Sprint?  Are you nuts?  You might get lucky
being a satisified Sprint Customer, but the odds are against you.

Do yourself a favor.  Patch it up between you and Cellular One.  If you must
switch, you'll be much better off with Verizon (even with an out of area#).

Under what facts exactly do you base your argument?  Currently about
16.3 million customers disagree with you.  Except for maybe Phillipe,
but we've established that he could probably start his own wireless
company and *still* not be happy with the service.

> Do yourself a favor.  Patch it up between you and Cellular One.

What exactly is there to patch up?  They refuse to replace his phone
under warranty.  So he's supposed to make do with a broken phone?

Ah, so everyone can call his phone and incur LD charges.  Real good
advice there.  Must be a Verizon shill.  Are you trying to artificially
inflate their subscriber numbers again?

I have 2 Sprint lines for 5 years.  My youngest thinks I'm stupid too.

Tom, do you know whether your area in SD is covered by SPCS corporate, or by
an affiliate? I'm guessing that you are in an affiliate area, as F&CA costs
$10 in Sioux Falls, and only offers 100 minutes, compared to SPCS corporate
areas for $5/mo. and 50% of minutes for roaming.

Picking a carrier not only depends on your local area, where the bulk of
calls will be made, but on where you plan on going as well. SPCS does have a
14 day trial period to check out those areas, before you commit to an annual
agreement. Before committing to SPCS, I'd give them a call, to find out what
expenses you will be responsible for, if you decide not to stay with them
after the 14 day trial period.

For those of us in the SPCS corporate are, F & C is great ...

It is an affiliate of SPCS.  I live in Watertown and just the town and
interstate is covered. Most of my calls would be in town.  Sucks that we
can't get the same rates as corp.  I do qualify for a 11% discount from
work.  All I know is I am not happy with Cellular One at all.  They have
great coverage and rates but you have to wait  20 minutes even if you go
into the store.
Thanks for the info

I have had very little problems with Sprint itself and with cutomer
serviceI have had, mayb,e one small problem.  My wait times have
almost alwasy been less than two minutes.

There is a samll vocal minority that will do everything they can to
badmouth Spirnt, some have legitimate gripes while others don't.

If SPRINT has a good strong signal where you need it, I say switch to
SPRINT.

I agree with Scott. I've had my Spint account for 4 years now, I've only had
one problem with Customer service and it was an honest mistake on the girls
part. And when I brought that problem to light with another customer service
rep they credited my account double what the original mistake cost. I have
zero coverage issues, and I travel up and down the East coast.
Sprint also has the $4.00 a month insurance plan. If your phone has issues
or breaks or gets stolen they replace it free if you opt for the extra $4
bucks a month. I have the number of a Sprint rep that I have dealt with in
the past that gave me nothing but excellent service. If you;'re interested
in speaking with him let me know and I'll give you his number. And NO I do
not know the guy personally and there's nothing at all in it for me, he's
just some Sprint rep that I have talked to when I wanted to upgrade and he
took care of business quickly, professionally and with zero problems.

I agree with Scott and Ratdog.  My Sprint service and experiences with
Customer Service have been just fine.  I have 4 lines, and have been a
customer since SPCS came to SF in 1997.

While I am not happy with Sprint, and have not had the best results
from customer Service, I do have to day the wait times on a call are
negligible, once you get past "Claire".

Not trying to be facetious or anything, but to "get past" Claire, all
you have to do is say "representative."  Not much of a struggle there.

It took awhile to figure that one out, but you are correct.  <chuckle>
Have you ever noticed that "she" actually sounds annoyed when you
bypass her?

If customer service is important to you, don't switch to Sprint PCS.
I've been a Sprint customer in the past and it's a mistake I don't
intend to make again.  See
<http://www.loganet.net/~doumakes/sprint.html> for a detailed
description of my experience.  Complete nightmare, and long hold times
were just part of it.

Sheesh! ... that was three years ago ... Since then, lots of changes have
been made ... and service and hold times have improved greatly ...

My experience as a new customer is quite satisfactory. Exceptions are that
coverage is not as uniform in my area as it was with my previous provider
(Alltel, in Gainesville, FL) and that the 3588i I started out with is a POS,
IMO. I traded it up to a Sanyo 4920 and am satisfied with it.

I ported from Alltel to be able to use a modern Palm phone and because my
employer is part of a group that gets an inviting discount from Sprint.
Alltel seems to be ignoring the idea of convergence, focusing instead on
push-to-talk and games & ringers. My phone is a tool, not a toy.

My overall costs are lower compared to Alltel and much better than Verizon,
for data services. Your needs may vary and may not justify being a Sprint
customer. However, their customer service is not wanting, in my experience.

I have no relationship with Sprint other than I pay them money.

So you're basing your experiences on something that happened back in
2001?  A lot has changed in three years, including the PCS division
pretty much being folded back into Sprint corporate, and the whole
company being realigned.  While I don't discount your experience, it's
not logical to say that what you went through in 2001 is going to be
what will happen in 2004.

It's amazing how many people point to websites that bash Sprint PCS, but
the complaints all date back years ago.

Sure I am.  Keep in mind that the unpleasant experience lasted a whole
year.

I don't claim that your experience in 2004 will match my experience in
2001, just pointed out that I had a lousy experience in 2001.  You can
judge for yourself whether there's been a major change in corporate
culture over just three years.  I happen to think it's mighty unlikely
that they went from "screw the customer and maximize short-term
profits" to "customer service is the key to long-term profits" in
three short years.  Most large organizations don't change that
radically or that fast.

In any case, I don't intend to give them a second chance to burn me.
It sends corporations the wrong message when we act as if we have
short memories.

Your opinion certainly makes a lot of sense. I wasn't paying close attention
to SPCS back then but they probably lost a fair number of customers, and
that generally is a great incentive for companies to make a turnaround.

A logical position to take. OTOH, if you adopt this position you might end
up using up all of your choices for wireless service and not being able to
go back to any of them. All cellular carriers suck. Some just suck a lot less.
