Stupid tone when turning on phone

Hello!

My wife just got service with Sprint and got a Nokia 3588i phone. Every time
she turns it on, it goes through a loud musical tone for several seconds.
Sprint may think it's cute, but she thinks it is obnoxious. I have been
through all the phone's menus and cannot find a way to turn off the tone.
Any suggestions?

I'm not familiar with the menus on the Nokias, but under the Sanyo 5300, I
can go into Settings, then Sounds, then Others, and there is on option for
the Power Off sound, to use a particular sound file or to turn it off.

Why not just leave it turned-on all of the time. ;-)

Because it may ring at her work and they highly frown upon cell phones
ringing there.

I found a sort of workaround a few minutes ago. I can go into the Normal
profile and turn off warning tones, which also kills the startup tone. What
other warnings are killed, I do not know.

On most, if not all phones, the ringer volume can be adjusted from the
rocker button on the side of the phone.

Bob,

The startup tone is a fixed-volume tone regardless of where you have the
ringer or call volume set. I want it OFF, period, but there seems to be no
way to do so aside from killing the "warning tones" setting or setting the
phone to Silent, which is unacceptable.

Actually I tried the tip entered below and it worked for me. Apparently the
tune at start-up is considered a warning tone/. And turning them off
eliminates it. Try it on the Normal profile and see what happens.

I am the one who posted the original "turn off warning sounds" tip. I am not
sure what other warnings get killed, though.

On some phones, setting the ring volume to silent or vibrate only
(before you power it off) also disables the power-on tune. On the old
Samsung 3500, setting the keybeep volume to off disabled the power-on
tune. I have no idea if any of this applies to the 3588i.

Hello, Frank!

I would prefer a solution that just lets me turn off the sound completely,
but if needed, the silent profile might work. I tried the keypad tone on
silent last night with a Sprint rep, and it had no effect on the power-on
tone. I may be able to change it using their PC Suite tools, but we don't
have the connection cable yet.

I emailed Nokia and I am waiting for their response to this question.
