Bob,
The startup tone is a fixed-volume tone regardless of where you have the
ringer or call volume set. I want it OFF, period, but there seems to be no
way to do so aside from killing the "warning tones" setting or setting the
phone to Silent, which is unacceptable.

Actually I tried the tip entered below and it worked for me. Apparently the
tune at start-up is considered a warning tone/. And turning them off
eliminates it. Try it on the Normal profile and see what happens.

I am the one who posted the original "turn off warning sounds" tip. I am not
sure what other warnings get killed, though.
