Do I need to have the location thing turned on?  My phone says turning it on
will allow the network to detect your position, making some Sprint
applications easier to use.  If turned off will hide the phone from the
network expect 911.
So what application would be easier to use?  does it really help or don't
make on difference at all.  Would be cool if they would have application
that would work like a GPS unit.
Thanks for any info

At the moment, it really doesn't do anything of added value as those
location-based services haven't materialized yet.  Turning it off
supposedly saves a marginal amount of battery power, so it might be to
your advantage to shut it off.  Of course it'll turn itself back on for
911 automatically, though there still aren't many 911 centers who are
even capable of picking up that data and using it, either.

So far, the mandated-by-law GPSOne capability in these phones has
largely been a bust.

True... carriers keep promising it, but so far the only company who
actually has delivered, somewhat, is Nextel.

It remains to be seen how benign and useful that feature is and will be.
There is dark speculation that the data will be sold to advertisers , and
you could get spam calls or text messages that say,  Hey, you just went by
KMart, did you know we are have a blue light special this moment?

Or to more sinister uses.
