Sprint does not use towers in the city where I live. They use light poles in
baseball fields and antennas that are located on the top of buildings. The
Sprint tower locator maps have been useless for identifying Sprint cell
antennas in my home area. Why doesn't Sprint put these cell sites on their
maps? I am located in Laguna Niguel Kaulifournia zip code 92677.

Folks all of the US have suggested that we teach the Gubinator how to
pronounce the name of our state!  ;-)

I'm seeing quite a few towers in your neck of the woods -

ngeles
.
Just click on a tower around your area and they will show up.

Because Sprint doesn't "own" the sturctures on which those sites are
mounted.  The tower maps are intended to show where Sprint owns the
strutcutres, to rent to other providers or to market/sell to co-locators.

That makes sense. Thanks. Is there another map that Sprint resellers can
access that shows where the cell sites are located regardless of the
structure that they are mounted on? I believe that Cingular has this type of
map.

The Sprint LA map does includes all cell sites: including the ones on
light poles, building roofs, etc. that Sprint does not own but leases
space.

Are you confusing two different websites?

The tower maps at
http://www.sprint.com/pcsbusiness/coverage/towermaps.html
are for estimating coverage and indicate cell sites, regardless of what
they are physically attached to.  For instance, look at San Francisco,
and in the city itself, Sprint only has 3 or 4 actual freestanding
towers and dozens of building-mounted cell sites, all of which appear on
this website.

Maybe the Laguna Niguel map is simply not up to date and so doesn't
include all the cell sites you know of.

The information at
http://www.sprintsites.com
is different.  It says:
"PLEASE NOTE: This website is intended for use by Sprint Sites USA
customers to assist them in finding telecommunications towers that fit
their antenna site location needs. This site is not intended to, nor
does it provide information regarding the extent of coverage or the
performance of the Sprint PCS nationwide wireless network. "

The tower maps do not allow you to zoom-in so that you can determine the
location of the towers to the street level.  The smallest zoom increment
shows a radius of about 20 miles and is useful except to determine if there
are any cell sites in your city. It is not useful to determine if there will
be coverage in your neighborhood. :-(

how does Sprint determine tower locations?

i would love to have them erect a tower on my acreage.

There used to be a page on the SPCS website on which you could fill out
a form to notify them you had real estate to offer as a cell site location.

According to my bookmarks, the URL was
http://www2.sprintpcs.com/learn/cellsite1.asp or
http://www.sprintpcs.com/learn/cellsite1.asp
but it no longer works.  I tried the Wayback Machine at
http://web.archive.org
and after a long delay it displayed the opening page with the site
requirements.  Then there's a link to page two
http://www2.sprintpcs.com/learn/cellsite2.asp

If none of this works for you,
maybe you can just send an email to SPCS customer care at
http://www1.sprintpcs.com/learn/form_public_question.jsp
or log into your account and send a message from there.
