I am thinking of trading in my VM4050 for a new phone with Sprint. Anyone
have any recomendations? I would like it to do all the 4050 does then some.

Have they started a new trade in program?  You may just have to sell it
your self and buy a new phone.  Are you eligible for a rebate?
My daughter and I have 4050s.  What don't you like about yours?

Actually I do like the 4050 but I have asked here before, I bought the
computer cable for it but have no idea how to get it to transfer
information, use it as a modem to log on through my laptop while on the road
or anything else. When I purchased my plan and phone 15 months ago I did get
a trade in option. They will give me $150 for the phone on a new phone after
one year. The year is up and so I am eligable for that trade in.

There are three major software developers who designed syncing software, for
address books, screensavers & ringers. Two of them cost $$$ (the top two
listed below) and one has been in development and is still free. I don't
know whether they support your phone model, but you can check out these
sites to see if they do.

www.futuredial.com
www.susteen.com
www.bitpim.org

As for setting up a dial up to the web with your laptop tethered to your
phone, that's fairly easy to set up, if your phone model supports it.
1) Download the drivers for your Sanyo from Futuredial's site.
2) Attach your phone to the laptop. When it finds New Hardware, install the
drivers you just downloaded.
3) Create a new dial up, plugging in #777 as the telephone number, and leave
the user name and password fields empty and you should be good to go.

Be advised that SPCS does not sanction this type of dial up, and if you sign
on, tethered to your laptop for a long period of time, you might raise some
flags on SPCS's system and have the Vision option cancelled on your account
and get charged $0.01 per kb transferred up and down.

Quite a few of us do the above, but keep our sessions short, and are under
SPCS's radar, without any additional monthly surcharges. In saying that
though, there are no guarantees it will stay that way.

OK, I set up the dial up account per these instructions and got nothing when
putting in #777, when I took the # sign off I got a busy signal. So I have a
question, is it supposed to be #777 or 777? And since that doesnt really go
anywhere (No remote computer) how do I actually make the connection say to
AOL? Your help would be appreciated...again. Thanks. J

#777 tells your phone to connect to the Internet (Vision data service),
and once you're on the Internet you can go anywhere the Internet reaches.

Is this free?

It's included in the Vision option, either $15 or $10 per month.
Sprint's policy is that this service is for cell phone handsets only,
not for tethering a laptop to the handset. However, they don't
prevent you from tethering a laptop, and nominal (light) laptop
usage is not penalized.

Not yet.

Recently, Sprint has requested several phone manufactures to
disable the ability to tether their phones.

Did you install the Sanyo phone drivers?

As for connecting to AOL, it's per John's comments, that you should be able
to get to any website. In saying that, no ... it's not free, per my prior
comments and John's. You need to have Vision on your account, and you need
to keep your usage at a minimal basis.

Thanks to all, I do have Vision and after a second attempt was able to log
on, very slow though. In fact once it opened to my home page it would go any
further but Ill play with it. Thanks again.

Care to elaborate on "then some?"
