I've wasted another 30 minutes with Sprint Tech Assistance and the guy
finally said he, and everyone at the tech center he's asked gives up, he
can't find out:  Can you use Sprint voicedial with a bluetooth headset????
I just bought a Treo 650 (Palms OS PDA/cellphone).  On the sprint website
there is an add for downloadable software for $20 to put a voicedial program
into the Treo but it explicitly says it won't work with a bluetooth headset.
The first tech guy at sprint said "buy the $5/mo Sprint voicedial plan
instead because you can use the bluetooth head set I think".  Well my wired
headset just broke and I don't have $100 to blow on the experiment of trying
Sprint voice dial service with a bluetooth headset.  Does anyone know for
certain whether this will or will not work?  I must have voicedial.   Thanks

I have a Sprint Treo 650 and use Sprint's $5/month Voice Command
feature to give me voice dialing. I dialed * send from the phone keypad
to get to the Sprint system, then said "Call so and so," and the system
completed the call. The next call, I just used the redial feature of
the Bluetooth Headset to redial * send, and I'm into the Sprint system
again. Ans so on and so forth.

While I've not tried it, I've heard that the Voice Signal software that
you download into the Treo 650 will not work with a Bluetooth headset.
I guess it has to do with how the Treo and the headset connect to each
other, and while the devices are "paired," they only initiate that
connect during an active call.

But that costs money, and is silly if you have a VoiceSignal-equipped phone.

That would suck. :(

On my Samsung flips, both VS-equipped, I was able to set the phone to
activate VS when I opened the flip, so I could plug in a headset, and later
open the flip and do a voice dial. I wonder if something similar is
available on the Treo (sans flip, obviously).

I can't speak for Treos.  But I did this with my Samsung MM-A700 for a
long time.  It was great.

Yeah, the A700 is *not* BT.  I have the Jabra BT-200 headset that came
with an adapter for non-BT phones.  I could press the talk button on the
headset, the A700's voice dialing prompt would happen, and I could
either call people by their nicknames in the phonebook, or I could
digit-dial.

It (voice dialing) never worked at highway speeds in my car (background
noise, I suspect).  But when it worked, I never even had to touch the
phone.

You still have to dial Voice Command.  The star key (*).  Then send. And
then you're in Voice Command.  By that point, you're already touching
the phone.  Yeah, it'll work.  But why try?  Other than having more
entries to use, and the ability to synch with Outlook, I never found it
that much more valuable than voice dialing (especially on the latest
Samsungs).

As far as I know, the Bluetooth implementation on the 650 does not support
voicedialing from the Bluetooth headset.

I have the Treo 650, a Plantronics M3000 BT headset and Voice Dial.  You
cannot use a bluetooth headset to voice dial with the "voice dial"
software.  What you have to do is launch Voice Dial and speak the name
or number into the microphone of the handset and then once the dialing
completes, the call will be xferred to your BT headset.
