Is there a sprint phone that can sync with Outlook?  I don't want a pda
phone.  Too big, too expensive.  I read a post about the samsung i500
and i600, but those are not available on sprint's website.

Thanks.!

The i500 is a PDA phone.
In fact I hve a Kyocera 6035 that syncs nicely to Outlook and includes all
PalmOS functions sitting here unused in the box.

The i500 is not being sold anymore through Sprint. Either of their smart
phones currently available can sync with Outlook but the Treo 650 needs
Chapura installed to accomplish this.

I have the i500 and like it a lot but want to upgrade and use the i500 as a
backup phone. I'm just waiting to see what the Treo 700p look like and what
features it has. Last report I saw said it should reach the stores sometime
in April.

I have Treo 650, and it can sync with outlook using the conduits that are on
the CD. I did not have to install any third party software.

Yeah, it's called Chapura Pocket Mirror. It comes on the CDs but has to be
installed for you to sync with Outlook. These days it usually asks you
during the install process of Palm Desktop if you sync with Outlook and it
installs it for you if you says yes. But back when I started using Palms
back in 98 you had to install it on your own (it even came on the CDs back
then I think).

Hmmm.... On the CD that I have there is no mention of Chapura, it just says
conduit for outlook. Maybe Palm bought the company/rights to software.

I don't think so but it you might be right. Not sure because I don't use
Outlook. I do know the CDs used to ship with limited versions of Pocket
Mirror and it's written by a company called Chapura.

Oh please; Outlook Express is an entirely different application than
Outlook. And Outlook is not a news reader...

But for the record, Pocket Mirror used to--or perhaps still does--have
the ability to sync PIM data with Outlook, yet email with Outlook
Express (or Outlook). I used to find that amusing, as MS's own sync
app--ActiveSync--didn't have that ability (and I doubt it does now).

Neither is Outlook Express, really.  <ducking>

To avoid this type of confusion in the future, Microsoft has
renamed OE as "Windows Mail" in the next Windows OS (Vista).

I use Outlook Express only to view and respond to news groups, not email. I
do not use Outlook at all.

Uh, no. It's called Palm Outlook Conduits--and it's been the standard
for some time now. If you want Pocket Mirror, you can buy it.

And for the record, Palm Outlook Conduits is not the same as Pocket
Mirror.

The person you responded to was using a Treo 650, ergo not using Pocket
Mirror (he can still buy it). See here:

Thanks for clearing that up. Whenever it asked me if I use Outlook I always
say no because I don't use it.

Thank you for all of the responses.

However, let me rephrase my question:

Do any of the NON-PDA phones that Sprint is currently selling sync with
Outlook contacts?  Such as the Nokia 3155i?

Thanks.

Well, yes. In fact the Nokia 3155i can sync with Outlook (Contacts,
Calendar, and To-Do--I'm not sure about memos).

This is accomplished by the (free) Nokia PC Suite, which does more than
just sync with Outlook. You will need a cable, as I don't think the
phone includes one in the box. But you should be able to find a cable
elsewhere.

You can get the sync software here:

Please note I do not know if Sprint forced Nokia to cripple this phone,
preventing PC Suite from working, but I suspect not as Nokia list Sprint
as a carrier of the phone--without mentioning any caveats (other than
that it's available in "select locations").
