Does Sprint offer a phone that will work internationally ?

No, unfortunately. They used to have some sort of arrangement
where you could lease a phone that worked in the specific country you
were in.     However, it was a bad phone and anything but practical
for most people. Depending upon where you're headed, T-Mobile works
best for most of my friends who travel a lot internationally. The
price is considerable, but might be worth it for you.

I have found that in most cases it is best to consult with a
travel agent. In Japan, where I travel a lot, and in many other
countries, renting a phone for the period you are in the country is
extremely easy, and may even provide the most cost efficiency.

They used to... the Samsung A790
(http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=406); still readily available on
eBay.  Beside operating on Sprint CDMA networks, it used a regular SIM card to
operate on GSM networks at 900MHz or 1.8GHz (which is the vast majority of all
GSM networks out there *other than* the U.S.).  It worked pretty well,
although it becomes just a "plain old phone" on GSM networks (no data
services) whereas it had the usual Sprint Vision data services on Sprint's
network.

According to that link, Verizon still sells the A790, but there's a large
caveat: Supposedly the Verizon A790 was "SIM locked" to only work on networks
that Verizon was affiliated work (Vodafone, specifically) -- you can't just
take any old SIM and stick it in the Verizon A790.  The Sprint version wasn't
crippled in thsi way, as Sprint doesn't have any similiar international
affiliates.

In my opinion it's a real loss that Sprint has no replacement for the A790,
but I imagine that its market was just too nichey to make it worth their
investment.
