If you're IN Canada and making a call into the US, I beleive there's a
roaming charge for that, and an LD charge. But if someone FROM Canada
calls you while you're in the US, then you're just charged airtime.

In November, 2005 I was on a F&F plan and in Vancouver, BC. I have no
special Canada option on my plan. While there I set my phone's roaming
menu to 'Automatic' and my phone roamed on both Canadian CDMA providers
Telus and Bell Canada.
Outgoing calls from Vancouver to San Francisco, incoming calls from San
Francisco to Vancouver, and outgoing calls from Vancouver to Vancouver
were all 65 cents per minute. So airtime was 65 cents per minute
regardless of the direction or location of the other end.
When I was within a mile or so of the US border, I could set my phone's
roaming menu to "Sprint only" and use a Sprint signal and my plan's
included minutes. This also was the case in Niagara Falls, ON.
FYI, before leaving home, calls from San Francisco to Vancouver were 42
cents per minute.

Did you mean to say Vancouver to SFO ?
Just airtime is charged ?
I thought maybe they would nail you $5 for the next xx number of minutes.

Joe - No, I said "Vancouver to San Francisco" at the start of that
sentence. "Vancouver to Vancouver" means we were in downtown Vancouver
and called the car rental agency at the Vancouver airport. You did not
ask about calls within Canada, but I included that information as well.
Yes, just airime at 65 cents per minute. This was in November, 2005.
Rates may be different now, but Sprint's website shows 65 cents per minute:
www.sprint.com/internationalroaming
No, in that billing period, we only used 541 shared anytime minutes of
the 800 in our family plan, so there was no $5 upcharge to the next tier.
The 39 Roaming minutes (at 65 cents each) in Canada appeared in a unique
category (which does not appear in a month with no international travel)
on the bill's "Total Minutes Used" summary. They were not like domestic
roaming minutes that are summed separately but then included in your
anytime or night & weekend buckets. These 65 cent minutes did not
impact our anytime or night & weekend buckets.
