I have Sprint service on a family plan. Our phones are Samsung A580's
I purchased sprint because it has coverage in NW Arizona where some
family land is owned.  When I go there I can get 3 or 4 bars but cannot
get out.  This phone has an internal antenna.  I would like to purchase a
Sprint phone off ebay that has an external antenna that I can add another
antenna to when I'm up there as other family members do.

Will Sprint transfer my connection now with the A580 to another Sprint
phone without charge?  Calling Sprint is useless - I get different answers
each time I call.

I have no idea what you're talking about. You're getting 3-4 bars and
can't make a call? You want a phone with an external antenna so you
can add ANOTHER antenna? ?? Those things are new to me.

I change phones fairly frequently as a result of my job. I've never
been charged anything for changing phones, (ESN swaps, to be more
precise), but in my case I always change to a phone that's been
previously activated. I believe changing to a brand new phone that's
never been activated will likely reset your New-For-You clock (or
whatever they call it now), and I'm not sure if there'd be a charge,
but I assume there would be.

We have land in NW Arizoa about 100 miles from nowhere. Up there my
Sprint phone shows bars but I cannot make a call out.  That's about as
plain as I can tell you. This phone I have has an internal antenna.  I need
one with an external antenna that can be removed , enabling me to attach
an external antenna made for such a purpose.  People who live in that area
have such a setup and that is what I need.

Doesn't the phone you have now, have an external antenna place on the
back of the phone?

Just because your phone shows bars doesn't mean you have a good or even
useable signal.  What's happening is that your phone is too far way
from the nearest tower to be of any use even though it can still see
the transmission line of sight.  In other words there is too much noise
pollution in the signal.  Changing phones probably won't help at all.
