Could someone who has the $29.99/month deal tell me how much they pay
in taxes? I have a pay-by-the-minute cell phone and am thinking of
going with Sprint if it is more cost effective. I'm in Los Angeles,
but I'd be interested in hearing about the taxes anywhere in the U.S.
Thanks in advance.

I pay about $4 in taxes on a $30 bill. People in the next county over
pay about $8. It varies widely from one locality to the next, and I'm
sure there are places much higher (but probably not much lower) than
the two figures I just threw out there. I'd check with your neighbors
and see what they're paying for comparably-priced plans. Taxes & fees
vary moreso by locality than carrier (though there are some minor
variations by carrier within the same price point and locality).
