Virgin Mobile, which uses Sprint for connection has wonderful coverage in N. Texas where I am, but a friend who lives in Palm Springs is unsure if the coverage there would be comparable to the great coverage that Cingular offers there. So... just how good is Sprint in S. CA? thanks Sprint rules southern California. Sprint and Verizon are about equal here. I tested four locations I've used the phone recently, including the LA area, and I found the maps to be pretty accurate with respect to signal strength. > Sprint rules southern California. Not with Virgin Mobile (which was the subject of the OP's post,) you won't. IIRC, they use native Sprint coverage only. Out in the outlying areas of Orange County, you can pretty much bank on what Mij tells you. I live up in the High Desert and can give you data on the Inland Empire, in particular up here and down in San Bernardino. So... just how good is Sprint in S. CA? thanks I live in Palm Springs and I can tell you that the sprint coverage spans the whole valley. There is a dead spot near edom hill, but all cells except nextel drop signal there. I dont have a powervision phone so i cant tell you how that is, but my non PV phone can keep a 100kps video stream with out hickups. CA? thanks I realize I'm piping in late here, but you or your friend ought to check out Sprint's on line coverage maps as someone else suggested. They have really improved the coverage maps to breakdown types of coverage in each neighborhood. Pretty impressive ... :) Bob Sprint isn't so hot in SoCal, I have been here a year now and service is spotty at best. In many cases, the only place where I can consistently receive and make calls is on the highways. I've been a Sprint/Nextel Customer for over a decade and a mobile user for nearly as long and this is the most dissatisfied I have ever been. We are on the west side and . We usually are at the Sony Studios or Paramount. In any case I know of no dead spots at all. Again... there are plenty of places where Sprint works fine in Southern California. There may be some where Sprint doesn't work fine, but for you to say the coverage sucks means nothing unless you let us know where it sucks. For example, in my area of SoCal which is half(ish) rural and half(ish) "suburban", up in the High Desert, Verizon has better coverage way out in the sticks, north of Victorville between there and Barstow. Sprint has none. East, going towards Lucerne, Sprint has coverage way out past the edge of Verizon's coverage (except that Verizon has coverage on Highway 18 between Apple Valley and Lucerne Valley). So, it all depends on your specific location.
