My husband's Sprint Samsung is having microphone failure - he can hear
fine, but it's hard to hear him.

He wants "just a phone" - no camera, no email, no nothing but a sturdy
phone where the mic will hold up.

What's the toughest "just phone" these days?

I loved the RL4920, the 4930 appears to be an updated version with color screen.

That's tough when you don't provide a street address or website. :>

The website was in his or her sig, but don't bother. It was simply
this newsgroup mirrored onto the web. What's the point?

Most phones now adays, are not going to be 'just phones'.  But if you
are looking for sturdy.. Id go with the ic502 by motorola,  If you do
not have the hybrid network yet in your area, the walkie talkie
functionality may not work, but the phone portion works off the sprint
CDMA network so no worries there.  The phone meets with military
standards of durability.

My wife and I had Nokia 6016i phones for a few years that held up great.
I know that Sprint does not sell them anymore but they can be found
(Ebay, etc).  I found them to be reliable, great sound and sturdy.  I
dropped mine several times in the parking lot without any damage.  Each
time I was trying to pull the phone out of my pocket and I ended up
almost throwing it across the lot.  It is a great simple phone.  No
camera, internet, etc.  We recently upgraded to Katana phones.  I wanted
internet and my wife wanted "something cute".  I guess the Nokia looked
kind of plain.

I like my Katana very much.  It is a great phone.  I am just not so sure
that it is as durable as my old Nokia 6016i was.  I do not think the Katana
would survive being pitched across a parking lot.  I guess the Katana can
be considered "basic" since it does not play MP3s or play streaming video,
but, to me the Katana is still not a basic phone.

its pretty rugged the sales man at one store tossed it across the store to
another sales man and he dropped it and it hit the cement floor hard other
than a paint scratch its fine and works that sold me.
that and I like the 650 worth of free extras I got for being a member of my
local union.
but in all its a good advanced feature phone for those who dont want mp-3
and streaming and what not.

Do a search on "rugged cell phone".  Many will still probably have
things like a camera that you don't want, but they should hold up!  One is:
