Usually many phones die after years of using because of the battery gets
old, no longer honding charge etc.. so replacing battery may be the answer.
You can check with local Sprint store and ask them about the RETURNED
phones which I was told they sell at 1/2 of the retail price, and most
phones have only few minutes to few hours use. Or some customers return
because they don't like for some reason.

Lots of used Sprint cell phones on Ebay for sale cheap.
Buy one with a good ESN and have Sprint activate it.
Problem solved.

If it is just the battery, maybe you can get a battery on ebay.
If it is not, what type of plan do you have, Wireless Webb, Vision, or
Power Vision? Your new phone would have to match to keep your plan.
Good luck finding a Wireless Webb phone with good batteries. Although
Sprint PCS does not support the old Wireless Webb features.

I was in a similar situation but my phone had not died (yet).
I've had the same plan for over four years ($29.99 for 300 minutes,
unlimited nites (after 9) and weekends.
We never had used all the minutes but kept thinking about a new phone.
Two weeks ago I received a letter saying I can keep my number and plan
exactly as is, and can get a new phone (options ranged from about $30 - 80
with various rebates etc.) and no activation fee.
I have ordered one, and supposedly it is on the way.
BTW -- all the other times I had tried to ask, the exchange plan always
needed a $34.99 min. plan, or it would be necessary to get a new number.
Maybe you can try to call and ask for an 'upgrade offer' -- supposedly it
goes until April 15. Cannot do it in the stores.

Why not et a new phone from sprint and get a 2 year contract? they will
most likely let you keep your current plan...

I agree with this -and if he puts a little effort into it, he may be
able to get some other perks for re-signing as well.
In general, I found that signing a 2-year deal with Sprint has never
been a problem, especially if you have some set of non-standard account
features like the original poster has - it's not like any other company
is going to come along and offer more for less.
