If you were gonna get a smart phone for personal
use..... what would you get?

Treo?

Blackberry

PocketPc based phone?

And....dumb question here.... but say your wife has a
Blackberry and you have a Treo or PPC based
phone....does that present any problem so far as
administration or even sending emails to each other?

If I was primarily geeting an email machine I would get a blackberry -
probably an 8703.  If I was wanting a lot of net surfing I would get a Treo.
If I wanted the best of everything I would wait until the HTC 6800 comes
out.

Not, you should have no problems sending emails to/from different platforms.
As far as administration goes if you both had the same device it might be
easier because you wouldn't have to learn the quirks of two different
devices.

I would wait for a WM6 device.

I currently have a 700W treo and it is too thick and bulky compared to the
new slimmer models.  There is a new Moto Q coming out soon for Cingular and
possibly even Sprint.  I also think Sprint is getting something similar to
the Cingular Blackjack which is a nice phone.

Hopefully, WM5 to WM6 isn't going to be similar to Microsoft's "upgrade"
from XP to Vista!

Every upgrade is optional and there are many platforms ... that's the beauty
of free enterprise and competition.  For those that don't like the Microsoft
mainstream there are options ...

Typically the upgrade path for WM is to upgrade the whole device.
But in the end its up to Sprint if they want to support an OS upgrade.

People have already upgraded to WM6 on 6700's and 8125's you can speak to
them on the irc efnet #pocketpc.  They love and find it superior to WM5.

I guess I could find one for my Treo 750, but Palm/Cingular are going to
offer a free upgrade coming this summer to WM6.  Just remember its going to
whipe out all the information you have on the phone, from contacts, phone
numbers, settings and programs.

Even so, I hate to turn my Treo into a paper wait, as well as might want to
wait till fall to see if any "issues" arise, and probable will wait till
fall before doing anything.

I do know this is a Sprint forum, and not pushing anybrand, my data card is
Sprint and its cheaper and superior to Cingular's offering.  But its far
easier for me to swap a sim to another phone, then to be in a situation
where I am not going to have an operational phone.

I own a Treo 750 with cingy, its nice, for what I use it for and want I want
it for I prefer it over blackberry.  I've also played with and had for a few
days the Cingy (tytn) 8525, Sprint anyday is coming out with the 6800 witch
is the CDMA version (more or less).  If they don't have it in the store,
play with the GSM version at a Cingular store and see if it's right for you.
It will give you an idea if its for you.   Some people love it, others are
lukewarm to it, do to the slider kb and touch screen for dialing.

These phone/pda devices are expensive, and there are few wrong answers, I'd
play with one before I bought anything.  I went with the Treo 750 because as
a phone, I liked it better it was easier to use one handed., as a PDA it's
pretty damned good, but the TYTN is a better PDA.
