Hi All,
I live in the sticks. Anyone ever used a Yagi antenna, router, aircard to
achieve broadband internet? What antenna, router combo would work? I want a
router that I can slide the PCMCIA air card into when at home and have BBand
to my desktop, and then be able to put it into my laptop when on the go. I
need the antenna to boost my signal though, any advice??

That's really two questions...
Second one first - You want to use a Sprint aircard in a aircard
appliance. There are at least two that are in the over $500 range, but I
use the Dlink DIR-450 for Sprint's CDMA (the DIR-451 is for GSM cards).
So you can use your aircard in your laptop when on the road and tehn
plug it into the Dlink when at home. The Dlink costs just under $200 at
Best Buy.
Now the first question - I use an external omni antenna on a twenty foot
mast with LMR-400 cable when its in my truck and I'm below the horizon.
If you at least have a signal, adding a high gain antenna won't really
help as CDMA adjusts your power output accordingly.

I use a Wilson trucker (tuned) antenna, an adapter and a USB EVDO
modem to a router. You need to use a matched router that can handle
the modem/air card.
If you don't get at least one bar of EVDO, the air card will use
1xRTT. Which seems to be faster and more consistent than Hughes
satellite anyway.
