Hi folks,
I currently have a Treo 700p (contract is up in August) and a Merlin S620 aircard (contract up next
week); the latter is set up as an add-a-phone on a conventional non-SERO retention plan.

I also have an old dead UTStarcom CDM-120 aircard that is still on the account (no charge,
long story, it was left on the account to let the contract run out) whose contract ran out last
January and could be upgrade bait, perhaps?

I'm on unlimited data with the S620 aircard ($70/month).

SERO charges only $50/month for unlimited mobile broadband use, so I was looking to get a new
USB aircard on SERO and save the $20/month.  Or, am I missing something?

I'd PREFER the U727 because of its known Linux compatibility (among other things).

I tried to go through the SERO purchase interface, it lets me add the Compass 597 to the shopping
cart just fine, but if I try the same with the U727, I get:
" No products are currently available in this area.
There are currently no rate plans available for your zip code."

I called the SERO sales line, and they said that I'm SOL.

So, my questions are:

1) why would the Compass be available but the U727 NOT available via SERO?

2) is there another way to get that $50/mo unlimited rate without going through SERO?

thanks for any help.

I went through the regular non-sero site and got the same error you
did when picking the U727.  I am 99.9% sure it has to do with
inventory levels and not having any at this time.  I will doulbe check
however when i get to work for you, but I bet that is exactly the
issue.

Well, that seems odd, given that the U727 is not that new and all the stores (and
the regular Sprint sales channels) have plenty.

My contract ran out Monday, so I called Retention and asked them if they would
match the SERO rate (if not the same net purchase price).  I got a GREAT rep
out of the New Mexico office who put me on hold and researched (lobbied for?)
it for a good 5-8 minutes, came back and matched the SERO rate and said the
U727 is on its way.  (I'm a 10-year customer and relatively low maintenance, so that
may have helped).  Of course, things may still go awry when I receive the card and
go to activate it, but I quickly received confirmation emails that seem to be on track.

But, boy, going the conventional route was a NIGHTMARE.  If I called the regular
channels, the second I mentioned SERO I'd get bounced to the SEO people, who
promptly bounced me to web support when I mentioned the SERO website error above,
who would again send me back...  and every other transfer or so, I'd get forward to
a "this number is no longer in service".

I even got my first UNhelpful Canadian rep ever.
