Hello,

Have anyone tried this? You dont have to dial are code when calling local
through T-Mobile. I guess this is a Beta thingy or maybe even regional but
no word from T-Mobile about it yet.

I never have dialed an area code when dialing local.
Really depends on the local exchanges.

Los Angeles decided that everyone must dial an area code no matter what, as
part of them not wanting to do overlays.
Makes it simpler on the switch side of the house.

Really depends on the area you are in.

I've always been able to dial local numbers four different ways.  7D,
10D, 1+10D or +1/AC/7D e.g. 555-2368 or 311-555-2368, 1-311-555-2368
or +1 311 555 2368.  I've had service with VoiceStream/T-Mobile for 4
years.  I believe the only places where you cannot dial 7D are places
that have mandatory inclusion of the area code when calling a number
such as in overlay areas.

Here in Central NJ (732 area code) inclusion of 1-(AC) is a must.

Do you have an overlay over a previous area code in the same area?  If
that's the case then I covered that in my reply!

Yes, but it was not a requirement in NJ until around a year ago.  This holds
true for any phone, wired or wireless.

Kinda depends on where you are. Here in Lafayette, LA, with a local T-Mobile
number you don't have to dial the area code. If you are in Dallas, there are 3
area codes and 10 digit dialing is mandatory.

I recommend that you enter all phone book entries with 10 digits as when you
travel you WILL have to put the area code in.

This has always been location dependent for us.  If we are in the area
of our phone's area code, it works.  If we are out of the area, we
must dial the area code before the number.  It has been like this
since we started in Oct 2000.  I remember back in the days when
T-Mobile only covered O'Hare in Chicago, and dialing a St. Paul number
without the area code did not work.  So maybe this is a vestige from
Aerial?

If I dial a 7 digit number even out of my local area and 7 digit
dialing is still permitted in the area where I am located I'll reach
the 7 digit number in my *home* area.

10/11 digit dialing is becomin more and more required in more and more
places... This is not T-Mobile, this is an FCC mandate due to ares
code overlay and congestion, and as one previously stated, to make it
easier to siwthc calls... It is being switched area by area
nationwide... Within a period of time, it will be basically
nationwide... There is even talk fo the switching system going to a
form of 12 digit dialing to switch more numbers...

If you need to dail 10/11 digits, it doesnt make it long distance to
or from a landline, unless it would be toll in first place...

The idea of programming the numbers as 11 digit in phoneook is great..
go one step further if you travle and use phone internationally... add
the +1 NPA-Nxx format and you can dial anywhere with out having to add
anything and dialing manuallly... in US + is ignored.. just like 1+NPA
format for local dialing is if not "required"

I have been on T-Mobile for over a year and a half, and never had to dial
the area code for a number within my area code. Just as with my landline
phone, for a number within my area code you just dial the 7 digit number.
Same thing if my actual physical location is outside of my area code, since
the phone is numbered to that area code, I don't dial an area code for
numbers within my home area code, I do have to dial the area code for a
number with a different area code.

I certainly don't think it's a "Beta thingie".

I guess there is "no word from T-Mobile about it" because it's completely
normal.
