GPRS domestic roaming charges?

I'm driving from the east coast to Idaho next week and across North Dakota
and Montana the t-mobile map shows it as a roaming area. For GPRS coverage
it says:

"T-Mobile Internet, Sidekick and t-zones service may not be available in
all these areas, but where available, roaming charges will apply."

Does anyone know what those charges are or better yet, have first-hand
knowledge of being charged? I googled this group and found numerous people
talking about using GPRS in the roaming areas of Carolinas when they were
on Cingular's network, but no followups on whether or not they eventually
got charged for it.  I also note that many have called T-mobile customer
service, who didn't understand the difference between voice and GPRS
roaming.

I don't mind paying a fair roaming charge, but if it's something incredibly
expensive like the 1.5 cents a kilobyte charge when roaming in Europe, I'll
of course use it very sparingly (if at all).

I used it in North Carolina last month on Cingular and was NOT charged.

as long as you have national plan, you should not be getting charged
my story
I'd been in NC and SC, where no T-Mobile, roaming Cingular
and I don't get roaming charge

No roaming charges on Cingular at this time.
$10.00 per meg on Western Wireless.
Roaming on Iowa Wireless in not allowed.
No word on AT&T.

Thanks. I drove along I-94 between Chicago and Idaho. Within Wisconsin, the
phone was roaming on "Einstein PCS" and I could not get GPRS. From Eau
Clare Wisconsin to Fargo, it was T-mobile and GPRS worked fine. From Fargo
all the way to Idaho the carrier showed as "XTNDAREA" and GPRS worked. It
only switched to t-mobile in larger towns like Billings and Missoula
Montana. I used GPRS inside the XTNDAREA and will see what, if anything, I
get billed.

btw, $10 a meg is pretty damn steep IMO.

....

I'm a T-mobile national plan user. I'm currently roaming on Iowa
Wireless Service; no GPRS, just GSM.

As I'm on a national plan there are no roaming charges and unlimited
night & weekend minutes.

I was only talking about GRPS roaming.  This had nothing to do with
GSM roaming.  Talk all you want just no data for you.

I have GPRS in Atlanta and was able to use it in St.Pete/Tampa with no
roaming charge. . .

If you do a manual network search in the Madison Wisconsin area, you
will find AT&T which has GPRS.  When I went through Madison last
winter it would not let me connect using GPRS.  I gave up on using
AT&T quickly, because the phone could not maintain  the connection,
and switched to Einstein, which has much better coverage.

Thanks. Good to know. I saw AT&T pop up briefly when I was getting gas in
the Wisconsin Dells area. Except for that and the stretch between Eau
Claire and St. Paul, it was all Einstein PCS -- where GPRS just would not
work at all.  (I didn't try GPRS on AT&T at the time).

Still waiting to see if I get GPRS (not voice) roaming charges. My bill
closed June 15ish so I should be getting the bill anytime now.

Just got my bill. I did get nailed for GPRS roaming charges in areas where
the phone said XTNDAREA. Line item said Western Wireless. Charge was $10 a
megabyte! Total was $20. Pretty damn rich. Still, thanks to batattak I
pretty much expected it. (thanks).

I'm going back out next month and will have to keep this in mind. It's
particularly tricky in Missoula area, where I spent a few days, because the
far side of town near the airport can drop you into XTNDAREA. I even saw
that once near Reserve street. Do that at the wrong time while screwing
around on the laptop could be costly.

I bought that psiloc miniGPS program and can set it to throw an alarm if I
switch to that cell.

I'll be driving back through Wyoming and along I-90 corridor this time, and
the t-mobile roaming coverage looks worse than I-94 corridor.
