Has anyone had problems getting a signal in the last couple days, on the
coast north of Santa Monica--Pacific Palisades, etc.?

When you say "connection died", did it loose signal or did you get
"dropped"?
IOW, is it a case of signal strength or not enough channel capacity in that
area?
Next time it happens, you at the signal strength on your phone. ( without
hitting someone else of course  ;-)   )

It is usually just a huge quantity of calls in that area.
Does T-Mobile do dropped call credit? Call 611 and see if they will give you
dropped call credits.
