I got my v300 a few months ago. Occasionally, I'd have problems with
it saying "Unable to charge". I wasn't sure if it was a phone problem
or a charger problem. Last month I asked Tmobile about it, and they
sent me out a new phone. It does the same thing, and seems to be doing
it more now.
I'm still trying to figure out...is it the phone? The charger? The
battery? If I jiggle the cord around it'll usually start charging. I'm
wondering if maybe I switched to one of those desktop charger units if
that'd solve the problem because it'd have a more secure connection?

I have an old Motorola P280, same charger connector. It has exhibited
the same problem, both with its mains charger and a car handsfree
speakerphone kit, since new. The problem never got much worse in 2 1/2
years. The problem seems to be in the contact between the charger cable
and the phone; occasional light cleaning of the contacts helps a bit. In
short, I wouldn't worry about it...

I have the same prob with my v66. I got two new phones and still had
the problem. Its the charger. Does the plug fit in very loosely and
wiggle around? My brother got a v66 and a non-motorola charger and the
plug fits in very tight and charges with no problems. Try buying a new
charger. I haven't gotten around to it yet but I will soon.
