I am a Authorized dealer of T-mobile.
If you talk to T-mobile you can only get an upgrade for an nokia 6010. if
you went in to a local store and asked the store owner, you can get a
upgrade for a different phone. Now you will have to pay more than the
activation price, but it is better than paying the full SRP (suggested
retail price) for the phone. Currently, T-mobile is offering all rebates on
all upgrades. Check with your local store for more details.
Should you live in the Arlington, TX area, looked me up.

When did this happen? It certainly did used to be this way. I've
upgraded handsets twice, and each time I got the new activation price
for any phone I wanted out of the subsidized TM lineup.

That's what I've been told at T-Mobile stores. That, since my contract has
expired, in exchange for contract renewal I can get the same price for any
phone as a new user.
