Lock code question

HAMBURGER - 28 Sep 2004 00:11 GMT
Just bought a used n-gage from a local game store, but when I insert
my sim and turn the unit on it asks for a lock code.  The default
12345 does not work.  Also tried 00000 and 11111 but still no go.  I
doubt the game store I bought it from will know what to do about it
besides offer me a refund.  Can I simply take the unit to a t-mobile
store and have it taken care of or will things get complicated since
I'm not the original owner and whatnot.  And typically how much would
they charge for the service?  Thanks for any info.

Hope you didnt pay too much

If the SIM lock is set, and default not working... TMobile cannot help
you... The only possibility is contacting and paying for service with
Nokia.. If they will... They have to basically reflash it completely to
reset...

TMobile store can do nothing... CC can do nothing... TSG can not help...

Its a security thing...

Sorry, it's not a security thing.  It's a carrier thing.  It's locked
to another carrier.

SIM lock IS a security code... Most handsets INCLDUING N-Gage allow you to
lock so no other SIM except original SIM...

For the Record, CIngular never sold N-Gage, and like 80% of them were sold
as TMobile devices...

A subsidy lock will invoke a invalid SIM message not a "Lock"

Subsidy lock will do nothing for SIM lock...

Huh?  A SIM lock and a subsidy lock are the exact same thing.  The
carrier has the manufacturer put a SIM restriction because they are
subsidizing the cost of the handset so they don't want a competitor's
SIM to be used in the handset that they subsidized.  It's the *same*
thing whether you call it a SIM lock or subsidy lock.  And you're
unique to call a SIM lock security.

Sounds like your handset is SIM locked to another carrier (AT&T
Wireless or cingular likely.)  To use the T-Mobile SIM you'll need to
have it unlocked.  Go to http://www.uniquephones.com and register.
You'll then have access to their on line SIM unlock calculator.  Make
sure you use the MNC 310-20 rather than the standard code of 310-26.
