Can I switch the sim from a 6010 to a 5190 and use it if I want/needed to ?

Explanation: I have a setup on a notebook computer running W98se with Nokia
PC suite with a cable that allows me to dial into my ISP for simple email
AND Banking (MS Money) (albeit slow) with NO added expense for gprs or
whatever.
Since I only use this a few times A YEAR I don't want to upgrade or have
added costs (I'm cheap) since this system is NOT broke I don't need to fix
it !

If my wife gets a newer phone (6010) will I be able to switch the SIM from
it to the 5190 to access my ISP (on rare occasions) the way I do now ?

I use this while traveling and/or camping in a motorhome or while sitting at
rest stops.

Thanks

That's the whole point of having a SIM card. So, yes.

That was just so much gibberish to me .)

Not sure, but I don't think the old SIMS work in the 6010's.  Or maybe it's
the new SIM's that won't work in the 5190's.  Yeah, I think that's it now I
think about it.  So, I guess what I'm saying is if you upgrade your SIM, you
may end up being screwed with the 5190.  I'd go into a store and test it out
with a dead SIM.

There's quite simply no difference in SIMS. I'm still using a SIM that
was originally in a 5190. It's gone on to serve in a 3310 and now a
6610. There's no loss of functionality whatsoever.

So maybe_backwards_ - 6010>5190 would work too then.............

like this: my wife gets a 6010 in her name and I want to put the SIM (once
in great while) into MY old 5190 that I have left from a closed account ?

I hope....

Yes, it will work either way. SIMs are standard throughout the GSM
world to allow you to pop them into different phones as you upgrade.
In many cases, carriers "lock" their phones to allow only their SIMs
to be used with phones they supply, but that is done to allow them to
recoup the subsidy they supply when giving our phones. This
restriction can be removed in several different ways.

If the 5190 is locked to a specific carrier, you'll have to get that
removed. A phone can remained locked even if your service with that
carrier has been discontinued. You won't be able to get your old
carrier to give you the unlock code if you no longer have service with
them -- even if their policy allows reps to give out such codes. In
that case, you'll have to get it unlocked by a store or buy a cable
and do it yourself.
