I just posted to customer care about my Siemens S56 not working with
data (admittedly not a T-Mobile phone).  I gave them a snippet of my
modem dialog. I told them I did it exactly as the configurator told me
for a Siemens CF62T.  This was my reply:
I apologize for any inconvenience or confusion that this may have
caused. Unfortunately, the Siemens CF62T cannot be used a modem. Hence
the reason why you are not able to connect.

The Siemens web site says that the CF62T has a Data/FaxModem and GPRS
up to 53.6kbps.  So are all Siemens incompatible with GPRS data on
T-Mobile?  What other phones might not work? Or does T-mobile just not
want to deal with getting into the phone menu by hand and setting
something up?

Are you signed up for t-zones? You have to be.

Actually if you follow the instructions on T-Mobile's configurator, you
must be signed up for more than T-Zones, since the APN they have you
use is either internet2.voicestream.com or internet3.voicestream.com.

WAP works just fine with the S56.  The configurator sent the SMS for
the CF62T to configure my S56, and I got to the T-Mobile WAP home page
just fine.

I have tried both an unlocked Cingular and AT&T version of this phone
with the same result.

This is not an account issue unless they provision the account for each
phone.  I have a SE R520m that works fine.

Are Siemens phones just flawed?  I remember people complaining of worse
problems with the S40 and Voicestream.

Sounds like you answered your own question.
