I started reading their privacy policy and terms of service, but they were
as long and as boring as one can expect.
Anyway, as far as how this service works, don't they just redirect your
email to the phone number at every known North American operator, hoping
that one of them is actually a working address? So, if you send it to
1234567890@teleflip.com, then what they do is redirect it to
1234567890@tmomail.net (T-Mobile), 1234567890@vtext.com (Verizon), and all
the others.

How much spam do I end up signing my phone up to by using this service? How
they're making money isn't obvious from their web page and I know they're
not doing this for free out of the goodness of they're heart. I'd feel
better about trying it if they were upfront as to where the revenue stream
is.

The extra thing teleflip does is search a database that includes ported
phone numbers. I sent my phone an SMS and got it instantly. No spam
yet.

Fercrissake if you distrust it don't use the damned service. How much
simpler could it be. Jesus!! No one's putting a frikkin gun to your
head to use the service. If you're paranoid of using the damned
service don't use it. Simple, eh?

Fercrissake if you don't like people discussing articles posted here,
don't subscribe to the damned newsgroup. How much simpler could it be? And
try decaf.

What's your problem? I'd like to use it but I want to understand what the
catch is before giving my number out. Until then I won't use it. Although
someone else may have caught something I didn't and I'd like to hear what
they have to say. If you don't have any input then don't bother to respond.
Even simpler, eh?

You make life sound so simple. It's not so much worrying about it is simply
understanding it before using it then making an informed decision.
One of the major ways spammers harvest email addresses is by putting up site
that let you send "free" greeting cards to your friends. Then people can't
figure out why they get spam (it's because their friends and family are
signing them up for it).
Thanks for you input though.
