If I set my cellphone/account to forward calls to a landline; somebody calls me;
and I pick up the landline: is my account being charged for airtime minutes
while we are talking?

The answer to that question varies by plan and by carrier. Best to ask
carrier directly as it applies to your plan.

No. All T-Mobile plans have a conditional forwarding bucket of 500
minutes. If you use your conditional forwarding minutes the first 500
minutes will be taken from the forwarding bucket. Overage will come
out of your regular plan minutes.
Since this was asked in alt.cellular.gsm.carriers.voicestream one
should assume that the question was referring to voicestream/T-Mobile.
It's not cross-posted to any other news group so it's no mystery which
carrier she wanted information for now is it? You need to pay
attention!

Actually, yes, it does vary by plan and carrier. I was being more
general across all carriers (as stated) rather than just addressing TMo
which you did accurately. I know this is the "voicestream" group but it
seems users of all carriers read this.

Who *cares* if other readers from other carriers read this?! It was
asked in this news group. Thus your "varies by plan and carrier" has
absolutely no bearing on it. You evidently just did not pay attention
to where this question was asked.

In fact I DID pay attention to where the question was asked. We both
gave correct answers and, as I said earlier, yours was more specific.
Get over it.

I will not "get over it." You just cannot admit that you didn't pay
attention to what was asked and added that it varied by carrier.
Since it was posted to this group this is the *only* carrier that was
involved. You just have a hard time admitting that you are wrong.

OK, you obviously know what I was thinking better than I do so you can
be right if it makes you feel better and helps you get over it. You
still haven't explained what part of my answer was wrong, but if you
want it to be wrong that's OK with me.
Feel better now?

Look it up in groups.google.com. It's not my responsibility. It's
been noted in several messages. If you can't follow it's not my
responsbility to constantly re-quote what you said.

Yeah actually I am!
I travel a lot and used to use the AOL newsGroups to keep up. They have now
discontinued providing access so I basically read them when I am home. I've
been gone since Feb. 14th.

If you use *unconditional* forwarding i.e. all calls are forwarded no
matter what you will use plan minutes. If however you use
*conditional* forwarding (where certain conditions are met such as
busy, no answer, out of reach) you will use the 500 conditional
forwarding minutes included with your account. These can be either
controlled by menus in your handset or you can use star/hash codes.
(Do a google search for GSM codes.)

Only if you do not have a national plan. If it's forwarded to a
number in the US there will be no extra charges if you have a national
plan.

In my experience - yes, if I use unconditional forwarding. (I can even
forward to foreign numbers and pay international long distance rates in this
case.) For conditional forwarding, I've got a 500-minute bucket on my plan
($39.99 Get More), but I don't remember if I've ever used conditional
forwarding for anything other than voicemail.

You should count yourself fortunate if forwarding to international
numbers works for you. It did for me (Seattle area) but as of about a
year and a half ago internantional fowarding does not work and if you
want a number forwarded to a foreign location you have to use a
service such as Kall8.

I can't remembre how T-Mobile does it but some carriers charge you minutes,
others charge 10? a minute over and above your normal monthly charges but
nothing from your minute bucket.

Forwarding uses minutes if you use unconditional forwarding (forward
all calls regardless and the phone will not ring.) Unconditional
forwarding uses a conditional "bucket" of 500 minutes for conditional
forwarding (busy, no answer, out of reach.)
