We went to Presque Isle campground (the mouth of the Preque Isle River)
in Porcupine Mountains state park in Michigan.
A Dobson Cellular One TDMA phone said Dobson Cellular One, and I placed
many calls. The T-Mobile phone said no access. I forgot to ever do a
network search. Apparently we are not allowed to roam on Dobson in the
UP of Michigan?

no access as in actually getting a signal but not placing the call or just
no network/ sos calls only?
i do believe that up that way, it might be 850mhz roaming. Don't quote me on
it, but im pretty sure it is.
if it was, you would need a 850mhz phone. (iffy, depends. what phone do you
have?).

Did your T-Mobile phone have 850 GSM capability?

I have a T616 with 850MHz. The phone said "no access", which is
different from no service. It had many (at least 3 or 4 bars). The
phone says Cellular One in MN in Dobson areas, and makes calls just
fine. Isn't the UP of Michigan a new Dobson area?

Has Dobson completed their GSM conversion yet? If they're only TDMA, you're SOL.

I would have left the fone at home and enjoyed the moment.
