I signed up for international roaming in the old days and I believe I was grandfathered in under the old plans. I last used the international roaming about a year and a half ago -- does anyone know if they still have the rates, or do I have to get WorldClass? Also, when I signed up, I could roam in Canada for free (i.e., just using plan minutes). Is that still true for someone in my situation? I have not been to Canada in four years but am planning to travel there next month. Thanks! These rates should still be on your account. If you go to your account settings on the webiste it should show something like "GF International Roaming". Whatever you do don't go to WorldCla$$. I know why -- I looked at WorldClass when it first came out and was shocked at how much they were ripping people off. Unfortunately, I don't see the GF International Roaming on my account settings. I guess they must have taken it off when I last changed my plan. If I type my phone number on the page where it looks at my roaming rates, it still has my grandfathered rates though, so I am curious as to what the status is. Do you know if the fact that my rates show up for my number means I definitely have my grandfathered plan? When I enter my wife's number (never setup for international roaming) it rejects it as not allowing international roaming. I'm pretty sure they took my north american neighborhood plan though, so I guess I'll be paying 49 cents a minute when I go to Canada. Thanks for the info. I forget the date but if it was within the last few years, yes they took away your old international rates. Does your account page show "WorldClass" roaming? What plan are you on? I would print out the rates when you get them, so when you get your bill, if you were charged world class rates, you have some ammunition to get a refund. Now just remember, if you change your plan, they will take those rates away. I was able to add T-Zones without losing my old roaming rates but you can't change your plan. Whenever you have a CSR do anything make sure that they have not changed anything by mistake. Save copies of your bills. That way, if the feature were to vanish, you could make an argument that you didn't authorize the change, so it must be an error on their part. And throw in little comments to the CSRs like I do, "The day you put me on WorldClass is my last day as a T-Mobile customer." just to make sure you understand. Can't beat 35c/min over $2.99/min for China local calls !!!! If you had international roaming prior to November 5, 2001 you had the "legacy" rates. The only plan that had roaming in Canada without any extra charge was the "North American Neighborhood" plan which gave you 300 minutes per month with an additional 300 minutes on weekends. To my knowlege that's the only plan that ever offered no extra charge roaming and long distance in Canada. If I activate "Worldclass" on the newer number number, will that hose the older number? Would it be better to call in vs. doing to activate WC online thing to make sure? It will not do anything to the other number I believe. Do you have a separate account number for the other line? Even if you don't it shouldn't affect it. The only thing that could possibly affect it would be if you changed the terms of the original line since November of 2001. If you call you can get the rep ID to back yourself up if there should be something other than what they say. - - Whenever I do any changes on my account, I always talk to a CSR and make sure that I won't loose my old rates. I get the CSR's name (or ID #) and a call back phone number just in case things get screwed up. Then, I always check the rates on the T-Mobile web site a couple of days after things become effective to double check that I still have the old rates. I want to get Int'l roaming on the 2nd phone to use GPRS overseas. Other than that, I probably won't use it for much. Thanks again. ;-) Scotty I used to have the old MCI/Voicestream North America pla ($39.95/month 300 minutes USA and Canada Coverage). However, as tim went on 300 minutes simply wasn't enough, Voicestream (before becomin T-Mobile) was nice enough to give me 2000 weekend minutes, but, I wa still going over I was extremely fortunate to stumble onto Amazon back in Feb. of thi year, and found that they were selling AT&T plans (this is afte their aquisition by Cingular and the AT&T plans were no available anywhere else). I also found that AT&T offered at charge of $9.95 the ability to expand your home area to Canada Mexico and Peurto Rico. Thus, I signed up for the 600 minute ($4 plan) plus the $9.95 North American coverage option To my utter delite when I later received my new phone and I calle AT&T to switch my number to my old one, the customer service re started issuing bonuses. Essentially saying that since AT& wireless was being merged, they had a lot of promotional stuff tha could be given away To make a long story short, she switched me back to the $39.95 pla (keeping the $9.95 expanded coverage option), which has only 40 minutes, then she gave me 700 bonuses minutes per month, permenantly Thus a total of 1100 minutes and free roaming/LD to Canada/Mexico/P for under $50. The plan also has unlimited nights and weekends, an she gave me early nights (start at 7PM) and free mobile to mobil (cingular/ATT I can now use this phone as my only phone and disconnect my lan line At any rate, you can still get the free roaming/LD t Canada/PR/Mexico, however, it will be a Cingular plan, and th minutes are low, and they charge a premium of $20 over their regula plans Just goes to show, that there was some generous customer service a AT&T |
