On page 64 of the manual;
http://support.t-mobile.com/knowbase/root/public/tm30116.pdf?&A2L.SERVICE=Manual

It states that to access the Internet one must add EDGE as well as WIFI
service to ones account.

Does this mean that even though I have 802.11b at work and home, the
phone will not let me get on the Internet if I don't pay for T-Mobiles
service?

Can one setup the phone to just get internet from 802.11b?    I really
don't need roaming wireless Internet, nor the fee's associated with it.

The phone doesn't know nor care.  You can use any WiFi AP, not just T-Mobile
ones, but only DHCP is supported (cannot hardcode IP address on the phone).

But T-MobileWeb is just $5.99 a month.  :-)

I went ahead and bought this device.  It's nice.  It is hooked up to my
home WIFI.  I did have to modify my settings and change from HEX keys
in WEP to ASCII as the phone doesn't seem to allow HEX.

They wanted more than $5.99.  I think it was $9.99 and then $29.99 for
unlimited EDGE, which isn't in my area yet.

But I have free WIFI in many places of this city.  The city offers free
WIFI, many businesses do including the one I work for.

Thanks.
