I'm looking for a phone to replace my current 3650. I need the phone to have
bluetooth and Edge access at a bare minimum. I'm having problems finding one
that has as good reception as my 3650 however. I'm looking to use a PDA with
this new phone and the TMobile Unlimited Internet so I can access the
internet from anywhere. I travel for a living but only in metro areas and
TMobile has served me well. However I've tried the new MDA and the V360 and
both fail to get a signal in the building where I'm currently working in
Atlanta. The covereage map shows dark green at the address. My 3650 gets
anything from 0 to 3 bars when sitting on the desk of the 6th floor not near
any windows, if it has zero I can always set it on the shelf above the desk
and it gets a signal.. The MDA couldn't ever get a signal and the V360 gets
a signal when I first turn it on but if I close it or leave it open for a
while the signal goes away as well regardless of where it is placed.. Is
there anything out there that gets a better RF signal than my 3650, has
bluetooth & Edge? I'm growing tired of the 3650 but can't seem to find a
phone to replace it that gets as good reception. Any thoughts would be much
appreciated.
Lance
Why not keep your 3650?
I'm in the same boat, but in addition to Bluetooth, and EDGE, I want to get
a quad band. In the past, my experience has been that Nokias have the best
RF performance. However, I'm really getting tired of waiting for the N80 to
become available (plus, it might be a bit pricy).
I was looking at the newer Samsung phones (T809 and T509). I'd be very
curious on what their RF performance is like. The T509 looked great and was
priced great ($50), but unfortunately, it's a triband (850, 1800, 1900).

Why not get the T-Mobile SDA? It has excellent RF, EDGE, Bluetooth, and is
quad-band, not to mention built-in WiFi. It is also trivially unlockable and
can be flashed with unbranded i-mate firmware. Consider the fact that it
also runs WM 5.0 Smartphone as a bonus.

Is the SDA good? I tried the MDA and it didn't get anything at all unlike
the v360 which at least acquired the signal on startup in the current
building that I'm in. The only issue I had with the SDA when I saw it in the
store was the buttons on it were small and hard to press. It was also a bit
pricier than I wanted but getting what I need is more important.
Perhaps I'll have to try it out.
Thanks,
Lance

My wifes T809 gets reception where my SDA goes into "Searching for
network." This has happened a number of places. Though that might
be due to different programming.
There are places the SDA almost always goes into "searching for
network" on my drive to work each day. However, if I am on a call, the
call doesn't drop. Not sure what's up with that. I've got the
bluetooth headset, so it's annoying getting that beeping sound for
several minutes.

What does your wife think of the T809? Any annoyances we should know about?

She really likes it.
The things we don't like;
#1) Very slick - easy to drop and get finger prints on. So far it's
been caught before hitting the floor.
#2) You can't simply copy an MP3 to the phone and use it as a ringer.
You must rename it as .3gp, copy it to the phone's memory card, then
use the phone to copy it as a ringer to the phone's internal memory.
That's because they want you to buy their $1.99 ring tones.
#3) Samsungs sync program is a bit buggy. It's crashed many times on
us. Live update says there are updates, but they fail to download.
Samsungs web site only has the version we have installed for download.
These are not horrible problems.
The battery drains a lot quicker than our Seimens M56 phones. Of
course, we are doing a lot more with these phones. She has 1GB
microSD for listening to music. It does music very well, imo.

Does renaming the mp3 file works for sony ericcson P800 ?

The 3650 doesn't doesn't do EDGE otherwise I might, plus the bluetooth is
pretty limited on it.
I was told by the TMo rep that the T509 has come back to him by quite a few
people who didnt' like it. He didn't go into detail and it was just his
experience but still.
