Over the last three years I have had my current P280 for about a year and SEVEN
P2938 phones for the two previous years. Every one of them including the P280
has had the Earphone Jack go bad. This is driving me crazy. Do all Moto phone
have such crappy Jacks ?
I need to get a phone that will not die on me with the headset since I use the
phone a lot when I drive and in NY they love to write tickets for not using the
head set.
I need a phone with the great RF that the P280 has.
What are my choices to replace the phone, I only use the phone as a phone so I
don't care about any other feature except it must be a Tri-Band for when I
travel.
Thanks

Yes it should be P7389; 2983 is a typo :(

The headphone jack on that family of phones is succeptible to ripping
out internally. When you sit down with the phone on your hip the
headphone plug rubs against the seat and torques the socket off its
solder pads.
Get a Torx screwdriver (T-6, $3 at Sears), open up your phone, and
solder the jack back onto the main board.

Thanks for the advice, since I am not very proficient with small tools I will
ask one of the cellphone stores in the area to do the repair.

I just came back from a store that does repairs and was told the Jack is still
attached to the board and they can't do anything to fix the problem. I guess I
will try one more shop to see if they can repair it.

The jack has failed on my P280, too. It's clearly a flaw in the phone, but
aside from that, the phone is a good one.

Then the jacks (power too) on the T193 tended to fall off. Motorola just
isn't good at this kind of thing.

RE: headphone jack... have had to replace set 5 times during past year
while under warranty. Now out of warranty and jack went out again. I
will try recommended fix. Note that T-Mobile and Motorola both deny
knowledge of any problem with the jack!!
