3650 and INTERNET

OneSolution - 23 Oct 2003 23:23 GMT I have a Nokia 3650 and I like using both the TIPIC Messenger and the Agile messenger software. However, both stopped connecting sometime last week or before that. I was led to believe that this was due to restrictions on T-Zone that were never enforced until that time, and those restrictions included certain ports required by the messenger software.
AAAAAnyyhow, long story short, I added the 19.95 INTERNET plan to my account and they say they have provisioned it. However, the messengers still don't work, though WAP still does work. So what am I to do to make it work?
Thanks, Santosh
PDA Man - 24 Oct 2003 02:34 GMT I believe you may very well be the victim of the MSN messenger 3rd Party software cutoff (Im assuming when you say messenger, you are refferring to MSN Messenger, If Not disregard) just about every 3rd party MSN Messenger Program ceased to operate on the 15th of October. If the Software/Portal Vendor didnt work it out with MSN, your off till they do, or maybe never. Everyone had plenty of warning, some of the 3rd party people probably just didnt have the kinda money they wanted. If you wanna know more, do a Google search, its everywhere.

If you were primarily useing it for the MSN Messenger (and Yahoo) portion, my above posting is correct. Most jabber baseed 3rd party servers have been cutoff, and many will not be fuinancially secure enough, if any finnaces, to "make the deal" with MSN over this. Sorry

If T-Mo Internet were working, then TIPIC messenger would connect to the TIPIC server atleast. So if won't connect to MSN, but that connection is through the TIPIC server.
My TIPIC messenger won't connect to the TIPIC server ... period. So in my mind, that means that the connection ain't workin ...
tell me I'm right ... :)

I'm telling you the facts and trying to help you with your problem. And the facts are that 90% of the Jabber based / 3rd Party servers are offline with MSN Messenger as of the 15th. coincidently when your phone stopped connecting. (Yahoo did it week or 2 earlier) Maybe they took their server offline to do an upgrade. I use IMOV the Jabber WIN CE client, I do not connect. I use Ruskin MSN Messenger Force on my Palms Minstrel V, Cannot Connect. But I'll tell you this. Your phone isnt working on 2 different services that use MSN Messenger and nobody has fixed it. Tell me I'm right :) And by the way, regardless of whose right, or whose wrong, even if you do connect, you wont be talking to anyone on MSN Messenger or Yahoo.. And by the way, when you ask for help, and someone attempts to help, don't be a condescending Ahole. Next time you'll be looking at a blank thread. Tell Me I'm Right :)

In fact, what I'm trying to figure out isn't about the Jabber based restrictions that you have made quite clear. Rather, I'm trying to figure out if my service has been incorrectly provisioned.
It would make sense that regardless of what MSN or Yahoo has done to restrict access, it wouldn't influence the actual connection. More to the point, if you take AgileMessenger, it seems to connect directly to MSN and Yahoo, and in that case, it would not get any connection due to the restriction.
In the case of Tipic, it connects to the TIPIC server. This means that I should still be able to reach their server and then see that MSN and Yahoo are no longer allowed.
SO ... if my T-Mobile INTERNET has been provisioned correctly, then I should be able to see this evidence. However, this is not the case. Wouldn't you agree that at this point, it has little to do with the restrictions that MSN and Yahoo may have placed on their system, and more to do with the actual T-Mobile connection and whether it's really doing any connecting at all? Certainly there must be a clear way to check that it is working in the first place.
That's all. Oh, and get a check on yourself, it ain't cool.
Thanks a bunch.

So what am I to do to make it work? Have you configured your phone with the GPRS APN "internet2.voicestream.com" (or internet3.voicestream.com if you asked for VPN access)? When you get the $19.95 plan, what you get is the ability to use that APN in addition to wap.voicestream.com.
OneSolution - 27 Oct 2003 01:07 GMT Yea, well, I tried but it didn't like it.

in addition, I am using T-Mobile Internet, T-Zones included

easiest thing to do is to go to the NokiaUSA web site and send yourself a configuration SMS from their support page - this should solve your networking problems

So in spite of this, it doesn't seem to work. Interestingly enough, my account has both T-Zones unlimited AND T-Zones INTERNET on it, even though I'd asked for only one. I wonder if this is causing problems.

When you have the $20/month plan, they always give you access to the APN wap.voicestream.com as well. Being able to use that APN shouldn't cause any problems. I'm not familiar with the 3650's menus, but I know with my SonyEricsson P800, if I change GPRS to internet3.voicestream.com I can do SSH, FTP, and everything else.
gopi.
OneSolution - 28 Oct 2003 03:34 GMT Right. That's what I want to do. However, my Nokia has a pre-programmed username and password that seems to work with wap.voicestream.com, while internet2.voicestream.com rejects it. I know this because I tried. However, I don't know what username and password to use for internet2 or internet3.

There are no usernames or passwords needed with the T-Mobile network and internet2 or internet3. What happens when it "rejects it"? I presume you're sure your T-Mobile account is set up properly? You might want to talk to customer service and see if they can help.
OneSolution - 29 Oct 2003 22:23 GMT Well, that's the part ... CS told me that I have both TZones unlimited AND T-Mobile INTERNET.
So I went and cancelled it all and have only TZones unlimited now. I couldn't waste any more time. Perhaps when I upgrade my phone to something that does more cool stuff.
