friend's free Nokia prepaid does ...

Thanks,

The Nokia 3659 is 900/1800/1900....It does not have the ability to
pick up the 850 band.

However, there is a feature-equivalent Nokia 3600 which is 850/1900
rather than 900/1800/1900 like the 3650.

Unlikely. Btw, my 3390 started to pick up Cingular GSM in east Texas a
couple of weeks ago; whereas it only picked up TMO and ATT previously.
Doesn't mean it /works/ on the other networks, but it sees them.

Yea, well, I tried it a few minutes ago and my friend's free ATT Nokia GSM
phone sees Cingular, ATT and TMO while my Nokia 3650 sees only ATT and TMO.

So now I'm curious as to why my phone won't see Cingular.

Your Nokia 3650 doesn't have the 800(850) MHz band that Cingular is
using. Your friend's phone most likely is 800/1900 MHz GSM, while
yours is 900/1800/1900 MHz GSM.

It looks like Cingular has quite a few cellular (850) licenses in Texas.
This does not guarantee that Cingular uses 850, but it's a strong
possibility.
