Hi
Has anyone had their phone unlocked by T-Mobile recently? They
customer service representative refused to do so, saying that I'd have
to wait 90 days...
Is there any special department or persons that have the authority or
will to unlock phones before 90 days passed?
Thanks

90 days is standard. If you have some extenuating circumstance why
you need it before that sometimes it can be arranged.
Or you could go with AT&T Wireless and *never* get the unlock code :)

Customer Service doesn't actually do anything but fill out the
"paperwork". They send it to a completely separate department w/n
T-Mobile. Try talking to a supervisor you'll probably get better
results...

I got a phone unlocked a little over a month ago, no problem. But at
the time I had been a customer for over 90 days. I also had one
unlocked a few months previously and I think it was before I had been
with T-Mo for 90 days (didn't check for certain).
The "90 days" story has been known to vary. A minimum period doesn't
make much sense seeing that they've got you on the hook anyway for a
contract (or a termination fee). If the rep tells you not before 90
days try calling back to see if you get a different rep and ask
him/her. All you need is one "yes."

And then you'll just call back to find that the unlock department left
notes in your account stating thay you must wait 90 days.

Yes, I had to wait exactly 90 days before they unlocked my phone.

I got the unlock code on 4 phones on a family plan the day I received them (in
order to give T-Mobile the IMEI numbers).
Your mileage may vary!

Wow, same day... How did you manage that?

I used this link:

and through two emails I received my unlock code within four hours.

Have an account manager that realizes that T-Mobile ISN'T the do all to end all
and that there are times when the phone SIM might need to be changed for one
reason or another.

I called on a Tuesday and gave them the IMEI #, and called back on
Thursday & they gave me the unlock code. Nothing any harder than that.

I just requested two phones be unlocked two days ago. One is now unlocked and
the other denied. I have to call still and find out why. That right there
proves you do not have to wait 90 days though. As one was done in 2 days.
