I was able to get connected with my new T300 over IRDA using just the
T-Mobile Internet software, which you can download from their site. It's
about 7mb, which I assume is because it includes drivers (correct me if
I'm wrong, but the accelerator seems to be running not on my own machine
but on a proxy of theirs).

I think infrared is kind of a pain. You should consider getting a
Bluetooth adapter. The D-Link DBT-120 is tiny, works well, and is
relatively affordable. The latest drivers are really great - they make
it pretty easy to connect to the Internet via the 3650. They also make
it pretty easy to transfer files to and from the phones, and easy to set
up the serial link for the Nokia PC Suite.
The great thing about Bluetooth is that you can just leave the phone in
your pocket... although you'll probably get better GPRS reception - and
faster speeds - if you pull it out and place it on a table. But at least
you don't have to "aim" it like infrared.
