In response to your question about the Treo 650 on T-mobile. It WILL work once the phone is unlocked. I did this exact same thing because TMO tends to drag their feet in the way of new and cool phones. I bought the phone, unlocked it and put my SIM card in and it worked.
Good Luck!

I'm running an unlocked Treo600 on Tmo prepaid. Works great.

I did the same, starting new service with T-Mobile.
Both T-Mobile store and customer service were very helpful - never told me
the Treo was unsupported, but instead gave me all the info I needed. Even
managed to get a free phone out of the deal which I sold on ebay to offset
the cost of the Treo.
Also turned out that their data service includes free T-Mobile hotspot
WiFi. An unexpected bonus!
